Benzos Rectal Administration of Benzo's

Ive always been told(and agreed) that benzodiazepines would be a poor choice for a rectal administration due to them being practically insoluble in water. This makes sense in my opinion since I believe(allthough I have never had any actuall legitimate verification) that being soluble in water is necessary to properly be absorbed through the rectal membranes.

But then I thought about how I always loved to take alprazolam and stick it under my tounge so it can dissolve quickly and hit me faster. I know from experience that benzo's truly do work faster(and stronger in my opinion) when taken sublingually because I have compared the two ROA's MANY times. This must mean that the benzo's are somehow being absorbed through my mucous membranes and directly into my bloodstream.

I have also been told that the membranes inside your rectum are VERY similar to the ones in your mouth....so.....I would obviously come to the conclusion that benzo's should be able to be absorbed through plugging(as long as they were crushed and mixed with a liquid solution).

I decided to do some research and I came across a study done on the rectal bioavailability of diazepam, and sure enough.....the bioavailability of diazepam was atleast the same as the oral administration, and even higher in some patients. The only difference was that it took longer to reach peak plasma levels and consequently it took longer to reach "no" plasma level...(basically meaning, the drug lasts longer when taken rectally)

Here is the link to the study...

I would like to know if anyopne has had any experience with rectally administered benozo's, and if so, what was your experience like, what drug did you use, how did you do it, etc...

(sorry for the long post about butt plugging)

I have done diazepam rectal many times on experimentation and simply because i wanted some sort of rush.

I know now that I get barely anything from this method, anything that cant be explained by the placebo effect.

They do make rectal diazepam, meant for seizures in children but this solution has some sort of alcohol in it.

The 5mg generic valiums I get do NOTHING when plugged. At least for me.

Water solubility isn't paticularly relevent when it comes to rectal admin. as far as I'm aware (though it's extremely possible that I could be wrong).
It would make it easier ofcourse, but as long as you grind up the pill and "get it up there" then I'd imagine it will be absorbed - just the same, as you pointed out, as sublingual admin. :)

All you have to do is find out how soluble it is in water (using my thread), and then dissolve it in the appropriate amount of water, before plugging it.

That, or find other solvents to use to minimize the amount of water you would have to use (if you are just using water as a solvent).

Can't comment about plugging benzo's but zopiclone (which is very benzo-like) works very well indeed! Just crush the tablets & add to a small amount of warm water. Try to remove the bits of coating tho...they don't dissolve very well. Probably harmless, but they do tend to clog up your works.

Hope thats helpful:)

Sometimes the BA can be higher and the rate of absorption is sped up, leading to a better effect.

There are a select few which have a very low oral BA. I know midazolam and triazolam are two good examples.

Other than the few oddballs, most benzos have at least 80% oral BA, and most common ones have above 90%.

Yea, I prescibed clonazepam which is why I say that, Kpin is 90+ almost positive. Also there are some oddballs which are water soluable

I have a question. I used 2 x 0.5mg rivotril (roche) (clonazepam) pills and crushed them and mixed them in 1ml of regular water. I don't know the ph of the water used. What effects might I get from it? Is it a wasted try trying to get something more out of such a low dose? Having used nothing the powder is soluable in?

Btw It was really annoying since I lost my spore syringe ...Argh

Oh, I am talking about rectal dosing and not IVing. Is it to late or is there still something I can do to potentiate it. I don't feel much. But i don't feel much from 1mg oral either.

I just used a nasal spray which probably contains ethanol or some form of alcohol. I hope it will take effect now. I don't care about the xylometazolini hcl and benzalkonii chloridum in it. I don't think those two matter.

Right now I'm drinking a bottle of passionfruit juice and hoping it will act as a minor maoi and a bottle of grapefruit juice but that probably only works with oral administration.

eh most benzos are lipid-soluble, so simply dissolve in e.g milk or an oil like olive oil or grapeseed oil

i've been doing this for years without fail and it's definitely more effective and potent than oral admin

how can you handle that bitter taste
