‘Reefer Madness’ contagious in California

Media hype about the possible legalization of marijuana in California this fall has caused an outbreak of “Reefer Madness” that has seemingly affected everyone. Anti drug advocates, conservatives, liberals, growers, purchasers, dispensaries and users alike have been talking about the possibility of the price of marijuana falling through the floor.

Fuck I dunno this vote is still to close to call (its within the margin for error with 52 percent in support according to the last poll I saw). Whoever can get out the vote is gonna win that means if you are in Cali get your pothead ass plus everyone you know who will vote yes to the polls. In non presidential elections it is all about voter turnout. If we lose this vote it will set us back 20 years this is our defining moment god I wish I was there to help.

^I ain't a California resident, but it looks like a bunch of smokers might vote NO. Every no vote cancels a yes vote, so low voter turnout may be better than high voter turnout.

I am urging stoners across the nation to GET REAL and GO WITH THE FLOW OF YOUR LIFE AND OTHERS, which includes settling on common grounds. Let the fat cats win to a lesser degree for the short future while our rights completely skyrocket with public awareness.

What the lower and middle class knows does matter even though it doesn't often feel that politicians think so, they are still shifted to needing to appease many people at one time.

Just my two cents! Cheap, regulated, and legal marijuana for human consumption is a relatively important step foward in the drug war, the growers will come soon after! Being stubborn until an instant transformation into what you want appears equals infinity, I'm not going to sit there like that.

I understand people in the pot industry will vote no but I feel they are a vocal minority. Basically what I meant was we as users and young people we need to take responsibilty for this we need to own this vote. This is not just important for california if we can establish a useable youth voting block then politicians will be forced to pander to us as a group.

Exactly. The youth never come out to vote as they feel there is nothing in it for them but this time there is. A vote in favour of this would send a message to the rest of the US and would probably have a trickle down effect eventually.

So get up pff yer lazy pothead asses and vote dammit :X . I don't care how stoned you are or how good the weather is out that way just fucking make it to the polls and vote.

Damn right. WHEN this passes in California, Colorado will be shortly after, and possibly nation wide in 15 years!

That, of course, is a very positive outlook.

Well maybe pot shouldnt be legalised if these stoners are going to vote themselves INTO JAIL.

In the UK we're watching this California legalisation thing with interest, hoping that it'll force our own politicians to admit there might be another way forward. Please please please, go and vote yes, not just for yourselves but for everyone who lives in a country that looks to the US for its cultural cues.

The way i look at it is this. If in a country as notorious for it's anti-drug propaganda and orwellian drug laws that this passes even in a state as liberal as cali other nations will take notice. It won't be long before other states have to take notice and also canada will take notice as well as the UK.

We came close very close in canada but sadly the conservatives have flattened any hope of that ever happening until they are out of office. As we have no united liberal front in canada i can't see such a bill passing here or even being tabled for a very long time. Hopefully i will live long enough to see it though.

As an ex-Californian, the greatest irony is that the state's sorry budget (many billions underwater) may be the main motivating factor in getting this Measure passed.
One can hope.

If it does pass and the Feds bring the drug war to California, I'm repatriating the Republic and bringing some semi-automatic friends from out of state.

If that happens I can see a very dark time in the near future. That would mean stricter enforcement everywhere else. It's kind of crazy how literally the whole world is watching this election. Just shows you how many people really control the world.

I like how they complain that the price "might fall through the floor", as if $300 for an ounce of herbs was a completely unremarkable rate.

Would that mean coffeeshops or shops like that in California if the yes won? Just asking.

Wouldn't all the dispensaries just start selling to anyone with proof of age rather than those with an MMJ card?

The law directly proposes the idea of coffee shops being developed for MJ comsumption.

For those people who think the feds will come in, well in 1923 New York was the first state to repeal Alcohol prohibition and the feds left them alone. Not saying it wont happen, but just a little food for thought.
