A basic introduction to give everyone an idea of where I'm at...

I've been on a variety of opioid pain medication for the past 3 years, due to multiple spinal fractures, leading to a full lower lumbar fusion (titanium cage).

Aside from this, I've currently been on 30mg Oxycodone tablets x 5 per day. I had gone through 2-3 days at the max of detox, numerous times as the result of going through my medication too quickly. Before that, I had gone through heavy detox from oxymorphone (Opana), which was MUCH worse.

My question is, from the opinions of people who have experience with it, is it more worthwhile going through a complete detox of this medication, or transferring to a medication like Suboxone or Methadone? I just can't see it being worthwhile to simply substitute one medication for another, as opposed to hacking it out for 4 or 5 or 6 days and just being done with it after the fact.

I may be completely incorrect in my assumptions, but this is why I'm posting, because of my lack of experience and/or knowledge on the subject. I'm simply terrified... TERRIFIED of going through this again.. In it's entirety, especially... I appreciate any help I can get from all of you. Thank you, ahead of time.

I'm honestly in sincere need of help with this, as soon as possible.. That is to say, I have a deadline where, if I don't come up with an educated answer by that time, I will be taking a shot in the dark as to what the best and most tolerable treatment would be... Please, I'm begging, with humility, to an answer to my inquiry.. :'(

I'm confused, so please help clarify. You are asking is it worthwhile to detox without using sub or meth, or should you use sub or meth. My question in return, is what pain management will you be on if you're detoxing out of your opiates? If you have spinal issues, I assume you will have pain management for life? I'm not sure of that condition, that's why I'm asking.

Also, if you have been on opiates for years, then when you detox it will not be as simple as going 4-6 days, and getting it out of your system, then you're fine. If that were the case, I'd say tough it out. But you will have a much longer period of withdrawal symptoms. PAWS will likely last for some time, considering the length of your use. However if you're going to remain on some sort of opiate for pain management, that would change things.
