Anyone ever hear about buprenorphine being used on animals for pain management/post operative pain?....I had no clue they did this until I saw a monkey on "Animal Cops- Houston" getting an IV dose of bupe for a back injury. I looked into it and supposedly its a common practice I had no idea......

I guess this wasnt the best thread to start I was just interested because it was completely new to me. Also since I currently take buprenorphine. I think its funny to think that a monkey is taking it the same time I am for basically the same reasons(pain management).

Anyone heard of bupe being used on animals in other cases? Or maybe even on their own pet?

I am aware that this thread will more than likely be moved elsewhere.

Sorry mod's i guess I just dont know bluelight as well as you do to allow the perfect placement of my new threads.

Damn that sux.....they probably only gave her like .02 mg's.....which is like 400 times smaller than ONE of my suboxone pills which dont cost me anywhere near 75$.

Should of just called someone on sub maintanence and bought a pill for a few bucks instead.

They also use Ketamine on horses in case you didn't know that before. I think dogs are prescribed Xanax on a body weight distribution per pound as well.

Yea, actually I thought ketamine was strictly an animal only drug.....also, yes, my dogs are prescribed xanax for anxiety, if you can believe it. The fireworks on july 4th scare them sooo much.

Using bupe is very common in the Veterinary world (I am a LVT, I know from experience) Although it is used for moderate pain management, it tends to be sent home with same day surgery pets (spays, neuters, crops, etc.) for oral use.
