Bupe Question about using suboxone during Oxycontin withdrawals.

Here's the thing, I've been on oxycontin (120mg-240mg) everyday for the past 4 months. I've experienced withdrawals before and it was, by far, the worst time of my life. I've seriously decided to quit using and I know that I will have withdrawals starting tomorrow. I'm seriously terrified and I currently have a job and I don't know how I'll be able to work while I'm withdrawaling. Luckily, I have tomorrow off but I will have to work for 2 days after that.

Knowing that tomorrow was going to be the start of my withdrawals, I was able to get 2 8mg suboxones. When I had withdrawals before, I was able to take 2mg of suboxone on my 3rd day and it helped me SO much that I wish I had taken it during all 4 days (which was how long my withdrawals lasted). I've read a lot of stories about how people used Suboxone to get off Oxycontin but most of them said they were on it for months..

So my question is : Would I be able to use these 2 8mg Suboxones (splitting them up into quarters) during my withdrawals so that I can function while I'm working? I honestly don't know a lot about Suboxone but all I know is that 2mg of it helped me immensely during 1 day of my withdrawals before. I'm wondering if I just take like 2 mg of suboxone while I'm feeling really bad and continue doing that for 3-4 days, will my oxycontin withdrawals be gone? I hear that it's really addictive but when I took 2mg during my first withdrawals, it made me feel normal and the day after, I didn't have a craving for it or anything. I was just hoping to take the suboxone for 3-4 days so that I can get through the oxycontin withdrawals without having to experience the horrible symptoms. Will this work or am I just being naive? Will doing this just delay my oxycontin withdrawals and make it start from day 1 after 4 days of suboxone use? Any help/advice is appreciated.

what u want to do sounds a lot like like the 4-7 day sub detox that a lot of rehabs do instead of doing long term maintenance. from What I hear the wd after your done with the subs wont be nearly as bad as if u just did it cold Turkey. u wont feel your best still for a few days but way better than u would have felt. although I did hear a doc say the recommended length of a short sub detox was seven days but I've heard of rehabs doing 4 day regiems. just make sure your actually in pretty bad wds before u take your first sub dose

Take just enough suboxone so you can function. If you overmedicate yourself the only thing you'd be doing is delaying the withdrawals, not easing yourself through them.

^This. Two milligrams of Buprenorphine is probably more than enough to curb your symptoms. Try taking half or even a quarter of that (1-0.5mg) and see if that isn't enough. Taking more than necessary is counterproductive, and many people with large habits find that minimal doses of Bupe are all they need for adequate relief.

I'm sure some will disagree, but even when I was getting loaded everyday on high doses of everything, I could get the relief I needed with fractions as small as 0.25mg and even 0.125mg of Suboxone.

0.125 has a strong placebo to it ^_^ but it's true, he really doesn't need tons of subox.

Im curently taking suboxone for a $200 a day IV heroin habit and all I take is about .5 mg's. And im 100% confident that I could even lower to atleast half that and still be fine, if not better.

See, suboxone works better at lower doses so the less you take the better you will feel. When I was taking like 4 mg' or more, all it did was make me feel normal and sometimes tired on higher doses, ever since I lowered my doses to below 1-2 mg's Ive been getting an actuall buzz or "high" off of it, making it much easier for me to stay clean(and I have been clean ever since I started suboxone). Also, the lower doses will dramatically reduce the withdrawal effects from the oxy(probably completely take care of it) and will make it much easier when you run out of the suboxone or just decide to stop taking it because your taking such small doses your tolerance will be low and it will be "almost" as if you were never addicted to anything.

Thanks for the replies. So once I'm done taking the suboxone, I will still have withdrawals but they won't be that bad? Will I be able to function at work?

u should. I have known a couple people that had a hard time with short term sub detox that had heavy h habits but they weren't the "strongest" of people plus everyone reacts different. it sounds like the best thing to do would be to take as little as u need to feel okay then tapper yourself off with even less as u start to run out. stretch it out with the smallest dose possible basically.
