Need suggestions for my son

OK ... I'm so F'ing angry! :X

Can we use the whole curse word in this forum? :?

Anyway ... so the stupid therapist that joe sees in seattle, won't give him ONE SINGLE more benzo, nothing, zilch, zero! He NEEDS them right now! UGH!

He NEEDS to stabilize on Paxil ... and yes, that might take time ... but he certainly doesn't need what she's suggesting now: Anti psychotics! Serequel precisely. A whole list of stupid ass side effects too! :!

He tells me now, while inpatient, sitting in a room with a BRIGHT LIGHT on him, and 7 psychiatrists, he was asked if he said he wanted to die, why didn't he? WHAT??? And Joe started to cry ... and the pdoc says, so yeah .... I see the tears .. now what? :X :!

So NOW what? he says he's feeling like shit (some of that he'll have to endure while waiting for the Paxil to kick back in), but he NEEDS something for the horrible anxiety, while waiting. What the hell ARE the doctor's problem .... being so careful about something that might help him make it through this alive?

Hooked? what's hooked? I mean ... I know folks on them for years .. they NEED them, and their quality of life is SO much better. Cancer patients NEED morphine, you can get hooked on that too, so what?

I better shut up now .. before I get banned. 8)

He also tells me, that doesn't feel like himself anymore ... depersonalization, and mentally very scared and confused. poor kid! I hate that he's back there all alone again.

Suggestions now? I feel like getting my doctor to prescribe me more xanax or valium and sending it to him.

Do you what you have to do as a mother!! You know what's right!! I commend you for standing up! Also depersonalization is a serious part of panic disorder if you feel like talking feel free to message me or I can message you my yahoo and AIM. I went to college for psychology so let me know if you wanna talk! Good luck and I hope your son recovers quickly!

You'll have to message me, because I'm unable to do so yet, not enough posts. :)

I use Yahoo Messenger.

This sounds awful for both you and your son. Sounds like he needs proper psychiatric care, which can be hard to get.

A lot of this has got to do with the uncertainty with treatments. For example, prozac can almost cure someone from their deep, suicidal depression, but for someone else it can turn their mild depression into a deep, suicidal depression. I'm personally on Prozac atm, and it's helped my social anxiety. Only side effect I noticed was a decreased appetite. Who cares lol. Just read internet forums, and even on this post, you'll hear conflicting information from different people. Doctors have a lot on their plate to make such decisions. It can take several years for someone to be given the right treatment, let alone the right diagnosis. I know people taking like 5 different psych meds to feel normal. My mum (paranoid schizophrenia) takes a single stelazine (typical anti psychotic) and she's pretty much asymptomatic now. Our next door neighbour's friend is in and out of the psychiatric hospital with bipolar, nothing is really helping him. It's different for everybody. A lot of the time, a diagnosis (beyond panic attack, psychotic episode, etc) isn't made because a long medical history is needed.

Is there good communication with your son's doctor? They should be able to answer the concerns you are having... in an ideal world. For example, why he needs anti psychotics. Psychosis itself has a lot of stigma attached to it. But anti psychotics are not for psychosis only, it can help with severe anxiety. Every psych med has a huge list of side effects. It's a list of anything that is possible, or he might not get a single one. As I said above, psych meds are very uncertain. But there is still a lot of research behind them and doctors have years of experience with people like your son. But when someone is suffering so much, what else can you do?

I still don't see why they're not at least tapering of the paxil and giving some benzos. They're for short term treatment. If they're worried about 'getting hooked', well why'd they give paxil? Or any other SSRI? Maybe they think the serequel will do the job?

Oh man, Paxil... I can't believe they still give people that drug! I'm sorry, it must be awful to watch your son deal with all that... & whatever psychiatrist prescribed it to him in the first place is a fucking moron. I suffer from horrible anxiety, like, HORRIBLE, & three different doctors -- maybe more -- have told me that all the Xanax I take daily is actually less likely to cause horrible side effects & such that Paxil is.
Speaking of Xanax... Have you ever tried giving your son like .5mg of your Xanax or something to try? Because I know that even though Ativan never did shit for me, Xanax has literally changed my life due to how much it helps my anxiety. Also I think Klonopin would be a great option for both helping him get by more easily while getting off Paxil & for treating his anxiety when he's off it completely. Klonopin is similar of course to other Benzos like Xanax, Ativan, & Valium, but its effects are a bit more subtle, & it lasts for twice as long as any other Benzos do, plus most people consider it to have no recreational value so its easier to get prescribed than Xanax & such.
Also, when he does get off Paxil, if being on it helped him he should definitely try another, SAFER SSRI, like Zoloft.

Call me old fashioned if a chemical solution is what you wish for I'd suggest something with a few thousand year track record like...... morphine, or a similar substitute, however you must be able to ensure you have no supply problems, being on and off when you want on is not really helpful or enjoyable at best.

Not without it's own problems, but superior and safer IMO to ruining your life on any so called "professional" psych drugs.

As others have mentioned chemicals are not the answer alone, so healthy interests Yoga etc are definitely something you should be involved with.

Well, I'll tell you .... Xanax is helping ME! Man ... only ONE 0.5 keeps me calm all day and sedated too, if I give in and lay down. I'm sick of this shitty doctor world .. that tells US what we need!

I talked to him today .. he's been a mess! Crying all day ... anxiety through the roof .. no wait, through the clouds! He's sick to his stomach , can't eat .. damn it! I'm calling several doctors in his area tomorrow, and hopefully, we'll find one that WILL give them to him. This is getting ridiculous and it's literally ripping my heart out, to hear him suffer so much! It's gone on for TOO long!

By the way, he tried Klonopin twice, does nothing for him. The Ativan now has stopped helping him at all also. Is .5mg. of Xanax like (10) of the 0.5 pills?

How would morphine help his anxiety? Didn't know it worked on that.

ssri withdrawl can be nasty, makes me glad i kicked effexor before this could happen to me and know i stay the fuck away from ssri's.

If its as bad as it sounds he could possibly get checked into a inpatient rehab, sure most people are there for drugs of abuse which paxil is not but they do know how to manage physical withdrawl and it would probably be a safe way to come off it fairly quickly

It doesn't really help medically with anxiety, it simply produces euphoria which causes the perception that anxiety is decreased. Its also a ridiculous suggestion for that person to give.
