I'm not asking because I wanna get high.
I'm 25 and have never been prescribed opiates for anything except Darvon once. I have a terrible earache and it is caused by a bad ear infection. Opiates seem to be the only thing that really does the job as far as pain relief goes, so I was wondering: has anyone heard of an opiate prescription for this or a similar condition? Do you think I'm "eligible" for a script?

I don't see why not. Ear aches can be horrible sometimes.

As always, I'd recommend looking at the problem first. Worry about the infection. The pain that comes along with it is second. Don't forget the anti-biotics.

I guess. But seems kind of pointless to speculate. Go to the doc and get your ear treated and see what they do. Be honest about pain levels and what works for you.

I doubt it, especially at your age, but I'm also 25 and have no problems getting pain meds, but I have leukemia, slightly different, heh.

but I think the important thing here is that you go to the doc regardless if you think you'll get meds or not. an infection needs to be treated.

and just because you think the anti-biotic isn't doing anything doesn't mean it isn't. you're supposed to take the whole script.

No, I can tell you that you will not get opiates for an ear infection. My girlfriend is a registered nurse who works in the e.r and she laughed when I asked your question.........It will also arrouse suspicion if you ask because its very abnormal for someone to seek opiates for this ailment. She said an ear infection isn't seen as a painful ailment, more so as an irritation.

Also, I know your probobly looking for a buzz, but if you really are in pain, ibuprofen will work wonders for the irritation from an ear infection. Take a tylenol too at the same time.]

Keep in mind Im sure there has been a doctor somewheres prescribe opiates for ear infection, and probobly even less painfull ailments than that. There arn't many, but some doctors prescribe opiates like there's no tomorrow, my doc is one of them.=D=D

Was there any real point in actually posting about that? Honestly? I mean, it really doesn't fit into this thread at ALL.

Anyways:

You could possibly get something like vicodin Rx'd to you for your ear-ache. But all we can do is speculate. Just make another appointment, and be completely honest with your doctor, man. Good luck, and I hope you get to feeling better.

All that we can recommend is that you just have an honest conversation with your physician and see what a medical professional recommends for your medical problem.

We generally do not allow these threads because all we can do is speculate but since we can't know what the individual doctor you see will decide how to treat you, the discussion doesn't really go anywhere useful.

I hope you find some relief and you may find some of the information in the chronic pain thread in my signature useful, even if your pain isn't considered chronic.

Take care.
