Dr Alex Wodak -

Bio: Dr Alex Wodak is a physician and since 1982 has been the Director of the Alcohol and Drug Service at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Darlinghurst, NSW. Major interests include prevention of alcohol and drug-related problems, harm reduction, treatment of drug users in prison and drug policy reform. Dr. Wodak is the President of the Australian Drug Law Reform Foundation and was President of the International Harm Reduction Association from 1996 to 2004. Dr. Wodak and colleagues established the first needle syringe programme and the first medically supervised injecting centre in Australia (when both were pre-legal). He is a member of a number of state and national committees and has often worked in developing countries to assist efforts to control HIV infection among injecting drug users. Dr. Wodak was awarded an AM in 2010.

I'm considering making the trip over for this though. Psilo you've given it a glowing advertisement, has anyone else been to these before? What did you think of it?

On the bright side, at least it comes around every year if I miss it :D

It deserves much more than my small report.

I know other BLers attended last year, but whether or not they want to share their experience is up to them.

I have heard nothing but good reports from all that have attended over the years and words can't really describe the atmosphere at this event.
 
I guess it'd be a good excuse for a road trip, Fear and Loathing style %)

lol but seriously we can't buy bongs in shops here.. I'd go just for that. Ours are old and boring.
 
Hey Divine Moments, thanks for the interest in the EGA conference.

I hope you can make it down to Melb for this one as each EGA has its own special flavor and headline speakers, and as you can guess seeing Rick talk downunder is a once in a life time event. Rick is going to be outstanding, this guy is just one of approximately 15+ people that will be taking the stage but he is so inspirational words can not express the good work Rick & the MAPS team have been doing in the Field of Psychedelic studies and I urge you all to come find out for yourself.

There is also very much an element to EGA which we can not easily be expressed on paper or in a thread like this and that is the real reason I personally, and I know many others, volunteer their time to help create the EGA conference. That is, the electric and real feeling that charges a room and creates a special mood when you get 400 + pro 'drug' taking people in one place. People that may not have used scarcemental plants, Psychedelics or empathogens, but can understand and see that there is such a positive and intelligent bunch of people that all strongly believe we need change on this single issue.

Going to EGA takes the stereotype about taking drugs and being a stoner and smashes it completely out of the water, without over intellectualizing the issues too much. This really is something you have to see and feel for yourself I feel.

So please step up and help support what EGA is doing.

will be announcing more of the line up in a month or so, but from where i am standing this is the best EGA line up ever.

I decided to take the risk and bought my ticket! =D

I don't know anyone else going so hopefully everyone's friendly :)

I'm excited. Not sure how I'll get there or where I'll stay yet, but that's future me's problem. I know I'd regret it if I didn't go, especially with Rick Doblin headlining. Sounds amazing!

Divine Moments I am going alone as I seem to be my group of friends brains trust when it comes to HR and the only one really keen to go so if you want someone to go with let me know! :)
 
There will be heaps of cool people there that will look after all the newbs so you guys shouldn't worry. The EGA scene is very inviting and accepting.

Looks really interesting; anyone know if the other years had a more of a focus on either the social, pharmacalogical or legal sides of drug use? Or is it kind of broad?

Is this affiliated with Melbourne Uni or is it just the venue?
And I don't suppose there are student prices??
(Dreaming up ways of uni melb subsidising my ticket)
 
EGA has no official affiliated with Melbourne Uni - however you have to get approved ethically to use the venue as an outsider. So in a way they are supporting the space we are creating and the very broad Drug discussion we will be having there.

Tickets are set to officially go on sale for EGA this coming Tuesday, so get in early people as it is set to sell out with this fantastic lineup;)
