I am a long time user of Ketamine, and the most discernable side effect I have found is long and short term memory loss. I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this even after cessation of abuse? And even better if you know anything about it? Peace (:

My short term memory isnt the best, and my long term is a bit messed up as well, but ive done too many substances to know where exactly it came from :\

Memories lost, Experiences gained.

Fair, people say its smoking weed, but I find it only affects my short term memory whilst feeling the effects [High, After-effect, Ect.], I was abusing Ketamine for a long time before trying another substance... I am interested if anybody has read any reports/ articles on this topic, I found one which was an incomplete copy... Peace (:

My experience:

- A few uses then a long break = memory BOOST (especially language). Lasts at least a few days after use, if not a month.

- Chronic use, even if for a week = memory compromised (again, especially recalling words).

In my experience, the effect is reversible, and in a month or so, memory goes back to normal. That said, I've never abused Ketamine for anytime longer than 2 weeks, so I don't know what happens with long-long-term users.

Bluelight: Gratuitous drug use masquerading as harm reduction circa 2001

From memory, most of my cognitive faculties ramped up a couple of notches post-ketamine (for a few days) which (at the time) I'd attribute to a dopamine rebound

You seem to know your NMDA antagonism Jamyshd. Is that all there is to it?

What's more, I caught a glance study that blocked the amnesic qualities of a CB1 agonist via a NMDA antagonist. Can you share anything with us to that effect, Jamshyd?

I'm always fascinated why potsmoking forums occupy their time with a vague defence against opponents on a medical front, & almost no time on alleviating their worser stoner symptoms (due in part to our laziness perhaps?).

If stoner's cared more about their own plight, they'd be up jogging at the wee hours of the morning to kickstart those sunken brains of theirs'.

I hate it when I take too long to post then my log in times out losing everything I've written....:\

Long story short. I was using no less than 2g everyday for 3 years. 4-6 a day for about a year.

Long term memory is remarkable. I can call up stuff no one would expect to remember.

Short term on the other hand is very bad. I can't remember names/faces worth shit.

In my speech I was always looking for the right word.

With that, very dulled down version of the post I had written, said......

I am happy to report that I've been sober from everything for nearly a month. I cut off my access to the bottomless well. I have felt better these past 3 weeks than I have the past 3 years. Always out and about, been taking care of my body, and I've been more productive with my music career. Other people, without knowing, tell me I look much healthier and that makes me smile :) I can only hope my insides aren't too bad.

I'm not saying I won't get down at festivals, because then I'd be lying to myself. I just had to cut off my access to the amounts that were available. I've got my life, freedom, and happiness. I couldn't ask for more.

Kkk!

Well said ! One of the best posts on Ketamine Ive read to date, really sums it up, Thankyou (:

Let's just say I have a very personal relationship with Ketamine - it is very much like a weird alternative for a life-partner.

I'm also compiling a bibliography on therapeutic effects of Ketamine beyond anaesthesia. I have more than 100 different journal articles as of now.

If you can provide me a link to the study you quote, I'd really appreciate it :).

How have you measured your short and long term memory? Did you take a memory test last year and then take one this year? That's really the only way to have any real knowledge of how your memory is behaving - otherwise you're just guessing. Most people over the age of 18 always say "My memory is getting worse" - it's pretty much universal.

If you bought a book on memory and studied it for a couple of weeks you would have a better memory than you have ever had in your life regardless of your ketamine use. The reality is that for most people memory isn't important enough to spend 10 minutes a day trying to improve it.

You can always improve your memory tho lysergic. No matter how bad you think it is now, with 10 minutes work a day it will be 100% better within a fortnight. Do a little more work than that and within a month or two it will be better than 99% of the human population on the planet. Just buy a book on improving your memory.

Your saying somehow I can 'reclaim' forgotten memories? This is surely impossible during A conscious state? You mean like brain training? Swear down thats bullshit... Peace (:

I don't know about forgotten memories, but if you think your memory is bad then you can improve it in a couple of weeks. But it takes work.

What i wonder ever since is the mind behind ketamine. Created by the world's biggest pharmaceutical company back then. Proposed for last measures by the W.H.O. it has it's own flavour.

I know these memory losses described by D.M.Turner when he speaks of holes.
When i have had a blackout from a very high dosis, i come back to perception and i give full power only to get something yet undefined new which yet i don't know for what. in these seconds i'm in full power to work for a yet unknown new ability. after very few very very desperate fight seconds which gives me no sense, no meaning, no counterpart, and no memory except a vague idea of anxiety i start to memorize my body. suddenly i'm back and again i know who i am. but i forgot about the unpleasant hell of being nothing ...

but as long as you snort it ... it's very different.
