Over the counter substances to help end a trip

No it's not a baby im talking about it's a trip. I was wondering if there are any medications available from a (Australian) Chemists/Pharmacies that will effectively diminish or reduce the effects of a psychedelic trip of say LSD or Mushrooms. I know Benzos and Barbituates (both types of drugs i have little knowledge about) can achieve this but i was under the impression these types of drugs require a prescription, which i cannot get.

I know many of you will say "LSD is a tool into the mind and if you cant handle its effects than you shouldn't take it etc, etc" but i have my reasons for asking this question and in the sakes of harm reduction this type of information could prove helpful for me and others.

seroqual is good for aborting, it will knock you out and make u go sleepys. Benzos are good for taking the edge off, like the sketchyness etc. once the benzo's kicked in, u'll feel "everything is ok" feeling, then u can continue to trip and it will be a good one :)
 
He/she wants something that doesn't need to be prescribed. Tea I find for some people can act as a great placebo of some sort but I don't know anything that is OTC unfortunately :(
 
There isn't any thing that will snap you out of a trip as such. As they say "pay for the ticket, take the ride". Benzo's will definitely take some anxiety away from a "bad" trip but it simply takes the edge, it won't stop the craziness. The only way to end it as such would be to knock yourself out (sleeping pills as mentioned earlier). Even in a deep coma you are likely to still trip in your dreams I imagine.

Meditation and other relaxation techniques might help but you need a bit of experience or practice before hand. If you are after something to reverse the effects of lsd or shrooms you are shit out of luck.

My first line treatments would be Seroquel and Thorazine.

OTC you can get diphenhyrdramine, in high doses i wouldn't recommend this, Also Phenergan could possibly knock you out of a bad trip. A high dose is likely to cause delirium... talking to people who aren't there etc.

High doses of all these substances are likely
 
^ Ibis beat me to it, I was going to recommend anti-histamines. They may not reduce anxiety as much as benzos but they do have the potential to knock you out and let you sleep it off.

As Ibis noted, do not dose so high as to induce delirium, that plus a psychedelic trip sounds like a recipe for disaster!

I'd not recommend antihistamines - because of trip risk on high dose.

Really it's better to have someone talk you down - no drug is going to do it. Maybe just use a smaller dose of LSD?

Haha the title got me too, was expecting a completely different topic...

Anyway I agree with you about having someone talk you down. There's nothing like a compassionate friend with a smile, a hug and kind words to take the edge off a trip. More difficult if you're tripping alone though...

Interresting that Jordan mentioned tea, seems like something as simple as a cup of tea or (as the old urban legend goes) an orange can have enough of a placebo effect to bring things under control.
 
Yeah i don't know about alcohol, i probably wouldn't be offering it to someone who is about to wig out hard on acid.....

I've seen a few incidents outsiders would have considered a "psychotic episode" happen with people on the cid (girls mostly) ... all calmed down without other drugs, a change of scene and setting really can help, just as much as offering barbs...

OP, if you have existing mental issues, don't take acid or shrooms, its not worth the risk.

If you don't, just start with lower doses of either and don't be afraid of "bad trips" ... once you been through a few, you are almost immune to them as you understand how to deal with such situations.... Always trip with friends or have a sitter.

buy plenty of alcohol. drink quickly till u feel calmer than continue to drink slowly untill ya settled enough to either sit peacefully or go to sleep. (I can't beleive more ppl havn't mentioned this)
alcohol reduces anxiety as good as benzos except it unfortunetely has a hangover & causes dehydration so make sure u try to drink alot of water before going to bed & make sure u don't go out anywhere ffs.

Although not over the counter and although it's already been mentioned, Seroquel is the way to go straight to sleep if you can't handle the trip.
 
If u are going to take seroquel make sure u dose carefully. I took a 300mg pill and it knocked me out so hard i couldnt stand up after it kicked in. That is some strong shit and will knock u out for a good 12 hours. Ps: I wish trips would last more than 5-6h for me. I hear about people tripping for 12h + on the same dose as me. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. When ur on acid u will never want it to end when ur in the land of beauty:)
 
300mg would smash you! 12.5-25mg of seroquel is enough to put me down if i haven't used it for a few weeks. I just bite the 25mg tabs in half and that's usually more than enough.

I have known tolerant users to take over 500mg at a time though.

It's not OTC, but definitely a great tool for ending trips.

I would like to re-iterate that.

I took 100mg followed by another 100mg about 10 hours into a DOI trip and it DID NOT KILL ANYTHING. Be very careful. Feeling sedated in a munted kinda way whilst you CANNOT sit still whilst tripping balls is probably the least funnest thing that has ever happened to me.
