A mate of my has trained as a Ninja for over ten years and invited me to a lesson a year or so a go. My god I have never seen a bigger nerd fest in my life. After sitting and studying pictures of peoples faces to try and "read their thoughts", we finally got down and dirty with rubber knifes and the like. The teacher was pretty kick arse and one other South American girl I wouldn't want to mess with, but the rest couldn't fight off a cold. It was like I'd imagine a Jedi School would be like.... lots of theory but in reality no match for street smarts and pure mongrel.

I too want to know how to weld, I've got a few ideas for sculptures I want to make for my garden.

^ haha nice description! I used to know a couple of guys who did ninjutsu, but I don't know if that was technically "ninja schooling" or more martial arts based? I don't think it mattered to them as they just got ridiculously stoned before classes and called it "bent-fu".....

I wish someone would teach me:

* To play an instrument,
* To firetwirl / spin poi,
* Proper photography (inc developing film etc) - did learn this in art at high school but I can't remember diddly-squat now,
* To drive - yeh that's an embarassing one, for various reasons I didn't learn when i hit 16 and have never gotten around to it....
* Some rudimentary gardening - the basic kind as well as some mycology, growing exotic succulents etc. as has already been mentioned in this thread ;)

Edit:

* To roll cigarettes and joints! I don't smoke but it's always seemed like a handy thing to know!

I'll teach you some rudimentary gardening, I love it! :)

Yeah ditto haha, I can't stand smoking but it's cool to watch a friend roll a joint so smoothly.

I can help you with the first three.

Regards to xenon, this would definitely be possible by addapting a car built xenon lamp to a torch but would require some extra things such as ballast. The kits are available via ebay and are pretty cheap but I doubt the quality of the cheaper stuff. To adapt them you would need to use a torch that has 12v capacity.
Altyernately you could choose a Big Jim torch and adapt it to use two batteries instead of one with a little change to the wiring.

I would like to learn scuba diving and have made it an aim within the next 2 years to become proficient. I have a slight fear of being underwater in the salt but I have no doubt I can overcome this and that will be half of the fun.

Work pays for my chainsaw ticket. Oh yeah. Got to do the course again this month (because my boss is too incompetent to organise a refresher) and one of the days is on my RDO so $300 plus overtime for that day. Oh yeah!

^cant complain to much with that, when incompetence pays off haha

most ppl i know who have learnt to scuba (inc myself) learn and then rarely if ever use it regularly.

ps. id like to add: controlled can painting

Sweet :D

I'm keeping my eye out for second hand torches that I can pimp up! You must be able to get Xenon bulbs that run off less power. I have a Dolphin style torch that takes 4 x D Cell (4 x 1.5 Volts), and I knew I would have to do some wiring. I should go hang out at the Candlepower forums. I love my 3D and 2AA LED Maglites. Anyone can pm me and I'll send you the link for reliable wholesale prices for them (Australian seller) :)

How to turn thinking off

That's why I love a drink at the end of the day ... it numbs racing thoughts ;)

I would love to learn piano .... I will get around to that soonish.

I'm left handed though .... could make it a little more difficult.
