I flushed my Xanax down the toilet

I was prescribed Celexa last week from my doc. I had a lot of leftover Xanax from a previous doc (who my insurance is dropping) and was afraid of getting addicted (since I went through addiction to Clonazepam and it was not fun) and was starting to use them more so I flushed them.

Questioning to myself whether or not this was smart... I know SSRI's take awhile to start working and I've only been on them for 6 days. Does anyone know when I'll start to feel anxiety relief from an SSRI? I've heard anything from a week to 6 weeks. Right now my nervousness seems a little worse, probably just a side effect. But I refuse the demon of benzo addiction.

:(

no guarrantee that celexa will help your anxiety....
but I hope it does good luck

Nobody can tell you when exactly they will start to work, or in fact if this particular drug will work on helping with you anxiety. Doctors usually say 2 weeks as a general refence.

Also, it may be best to go out and keep your mind off of this. As somebody who has gone through this, the internet is both a wonderful tool, but also can lead to worsening anxiety. There are people that Celexa may have worked quickly and effective on. They may not be online writing abouit how great it worked.... But people who may have had negative effects are more likely to come onto the internet bashing it. So take the information that you read with that in consideration. Thats why it may be better to just think positive, keep your mind off of it, and just take it as it comes.

My dr scripts me Celexa and Valium and Klonopin... just went off of Xanax. I don't take the Celexa cause it doesn't work. I hate anti depressants.. lol Anyways you should have kept it around "just in case".

brave move.

if i had an addiction problem (im if honest i probably do) flushing my meds down the toilet would be hard.

chohkdee (good luck)

Doing what your current doctor is helping you to do is correct. It's not really a good idea to keep scripts from old doctors.
Don't dwell on the whole flushing thing too much. Whats done is done.

Next time ask about the "Blue Light drug removal plan," a free service provided by many members of this fine community.

The Celexa may give you a bit of Anxiety at first, and may help later on - but this is very subjective (as are all things in life I suppose).
Maybe you should have kept some for the Anxiety whilst you were getting used to the Celexa...
Ask beforehand - General rule ;)

Good luck! :) Hope it helps you.

(Personally I hate SSRIs with a passion :| )

I am quite proud of myself for flushing the Xanax before I got myself addicted to them. I am hoping the Celexa works, if not I'll try something else I guess.

When in doubt, flush it out :)

you could have traded/sold them

....Really??

Seriously she avoided a seriously addiction problem...Ive done the same with many different drugs....Though I feel bad about it days later, its the right thing.

No offense but I expected more from a MODERATOR of a harm reduction site like this :|

Oh mellow out the mods here do drugs, too. And why would it hurt to get a little $ out of something you don't want anyway? You were just complaining in another thread you wished you could find some benzos or opiates. If she had sold them to you you would be happy and she would have a little extra cash.
