Prop. 19 approval could decrease marijuana costs, increase consumption, report says

I would be pretty stoked if prop 19 passed, but I don't really think it will. I think support for it has been dropping, especially from the growing community.

Does the "growing community" really constitute a significant proportion of the electorate?

^^ganja is the biggest agricultural crop in the state so I would say yes. And those fucking greedy assholes can suck toe. They are just as bad as war profiteers. The simple fact of the matter is that possessing, growing and selling the herb will be legal. All of the taxes and regulations are secondary. Anyways, individual counties will be able to set grow and sell limits as high as they want. So if people are still interested in criminal activity, they can legally grow it here then smuggle it out of state to fetch their high profit margins.

And 300+ an ounce for the bud of a plant is just ridiculous when you think about it. The price should be much, much cheaper.

True, but the set of all farmers is a pretty small subset of the electorate. Plus, cannabis has a massive investment/profit ratio as a result of its legal status. I still think that, compared to the the total number of voters, those with a vested interest in perpetuating the madness in order to profit are relatively insignificant.

^^I hope you're right. However, I know a popular bumpersticker circulating humbolt county reads, "keep pot illegal"

everyone who votes for this thread.

please when marlboro starts selling bud... buy their schwag cause you relaly don't deserve to smoke the dank "the growing community" grows......

^Can't we just grow our own? "The growing community" doesn't deserve $300 for an ounce of weed.

An ounce of marijuana will never be $40 if it's heavily taxed... It'll probably be half of current illicit prices, I might guess.

The argument about cheap marijuana from Mexico makes no sense except to supply other states, the market for moonshine has was so dramatically decreased after the ending of prohibition that in most places these days it's hardly existing.

Anyway, I'd rather see Marlboro selling overpriced cannabis or Pepsi-Cola selling overpriced cocaine than see kids getting locked up for 5-10 and coming out as damaged adults.

can someone explain how state law overrides federal law in this case? i was under the impression the opposite usually happens

also seems like maybe this should be front page?
