Fentanyl patch/dosing/tolerance?

boyfriend has acquired a fentanyl patch, was planning to trade it to someone for a little smack but has no self-control or patience, and so we may end up sharing said patch tomorow.
I am concerned about the safety aspect of this.
bf nor I are heavy opiate users.
used to do oxy somewhat regularly, years ago, never got a high tolerance, up to about 45mg for a decent high. bf has had brief binges but has an even lower tolerance(buzzed on 15mg fucked up on 30mg)
I know that the fentanyl patches were recalled because they didn't always release at a slow steady rate as designed(don't remember what ...6 or 7mcg/hr or something? i really don't remember at all).
With such a low tolerance for opiates, is it possible to safely wear the patch?
maybe for a very short time period?

please let me know your thoughts/experiences

I'm afraid I can't give you a definitive answer, but I just want to tell you to wait until you do have a definitive answer from people here who know what they're going on about.
Because as you know - Fent is incredibly potent and very easy to OD on (it's happened so many times it's untold).
If they're the right kind, you could go about it by vaporising the gel on foil. But it would be seriously small amounts that you'd need to place on there.

This could be an incredibly dangerous practice to use these after a while off Opiates and with such a small tolerance.
Anyway, I hope you get a good response and are able to proceed with cautious knowledge

I swear my boyfriend has a death wish and/or is infinitely more stupid than I thought.
I apparently just barely called in time to stop him from cutting the patch up and putting it UNDER HIS TONGUE, which he still thinks is a good idea but will refrain from doing to prevent me calling 911. Sweet unicorns.
I'm not going to partake but will instead get naloxone tomorow and supervise him to make sure he only wears it in a normal fashion for 5 min at a time.
Fuck. I don't know what to do w people sometimes.

With little or no opiate tolerance, fucking with fentanyl is an OD waiting to happen. It kills even the most opiate experienced (with ease). We have even had some BL's OD and die on them. A quick search will bring up a ton of threads about the risks/dangers/deaths as well as information on how to use the patches safely and what type of oxycdone dose it compares to. Fentanyl is one of the scariest opiates for people with little experience to use.

What doses are the patches? If it's anything higher then the 25mcg, I would not even touch it. Even then it's still an iffy situation. If he does use them, have him use as directed, any other way increases the chance for problems. don't let him cut it open, smoke it, suck on it, or anything else. Also, any extra heat applied to the patch (shower/hot tub/hair dryer) will increase the release speed causing very serious, potentially life-threatening problems.

Someone more versed in fentanyl will step in, but I have to advise against using it.

As a long time chronic pain patient with a very high tolerance who just stopped taking Fentanyl....be very very careful.

When you first put on a patch it takes 17 hours(or so)before the medication starts working and after you take the patch off it can still be absorbed for up to 18hrs after! Not really something to get a quick high off of. Little euphoria anyway.

Hopefully, it's a 25 or even better a 12.5...anything higher and I wouldn't mess with it at all. If he must cut it up(which is the only way he's going to feel anything in less than 10hours)I would only let him have a small piece and make him wait at least and hour or two before letting him have any more.

Just what i've heard...I wouldn't recommend abusing it at all. Not worth getting sick and/or dying for. Like someone else said 'trade it.'

This!!!! Not trying to be an ass but 45 mg of oxy is not a high tolerance at all. Please don't fuck with fent... I turned it down from my dr because I am afraid to use it as scripted much less abuse it. Be careful no matter what you do but... I'm with everyone else on this.. bad idea.

He said its supposed to release 75mcg/hr, and is 7.5mg total.
I know that 45mg is an extremely low tolerance - why I thought it was an iffy-at-best idea in the first place.
I really don't think I can stop bf from doing it, but will be 5min away from the hospital w naloxone in hand.
Will show him these replies and hopefully change his mind, but its unlikely.

honestly, no lies here, do a search and read some quick threads of the tragedy it has left here. this is very serious.

brother, you would of fallen out in maybe a minute after taking that sublingualy before... now, here is a real second chance, dont attempt to hide and try this alone, you seriously would be fucked if you had ate that patch. with that warning taken, you have the mind atm to take the rest of the advice given, and any memorial threads read seriously.

be patient and what you get later will be better with all the anticipation.

Do yourself a favor and show that patience you dont have much of and trade that patch for something useful. Well I guess this is my opinion of fentanyl. I think Fentanyl gives very little if any euphoria, its potent and powerful, but it doesnt have the recreational value of the other opiates. It just doesnt have much of any kind of euphoric high. I hated the fentanyl patch. On top of that its a pain in the ass to use.

Some people do swear by fentanyl though.

^ That's probably a good idea actually. Swap it for your Opiate of choice if possible
