Important: What should be in the Codeine FAQ?

^ I've lost my old MIMS access information. :(

Leftwing I think has MIMS access, I'm not sure.

I've written up so far what codeine is, what the CWE is, given a couple of methods for the CWE, then talked about the health problems from APAP, ibuprofen and aspirin and am thinking of starting on codeine addiction and it's problems.

Ibis what kind of information are you planning on writing for addiction? Should I just leave that whole section for you?
 
This would be possible as well, however going by a few posts that phase_dancer made I was under the impression that a shopping list would not be welcome. Is there a consensus amongst the staff on this?

Rather than list brands, why not just talk about (list) certain pharmaceutical combinations? i.e. paracetamol xxxmg/ codeine xxmg etc. That way you're not directly "advertising" specific products. I'd like to see a distinction between accurately informing and simply pointing the way.
 
let me know how i can throw in my 2cents with the treatment section and any other information regarding the codeine faq. even if it's just proofreading what you got blondey, i don't mind. i do think i have some codeine pdfs or files tucked away with some info that may well be of help.

no more mims access for me either, i got it from ibis. though i can hit up jc for anything you can't get full access wise to studies, etc. i might pm him about some codeine studies/info.

Blondey, I intend to just write up some information re: treatment options, where to go, what you need to think about in regards to treatment - how severe your symptoms really are etc.

I think a lot of younger opiate (codeine) abusers tend to upgrade their habits to the level of a common heroin addict in hopes they'll score cheap drugs from the OMT. I need to get writing, i'm online should you want to talk to me mate.
 
It might be worth including in the FAQ some consideration of the consequences (besides dependence) of developing a tolerance for opioids. Mainly - it's hard to get good pain relief when you need it if you have a high tolerance. A couple of codeine tabs won't make the nut for easing that killer headache if you are routinely necking a few hundred mg.

Pretty much all the serious pain killers out there are opioids - maybe think about saving them for serious pain. Don't get me wrong - I love the opiate stone in all its many forms - but I keep it for special occasions.

Also - if you end up in an ED after an accident, and they suss that you've got a tolerance to opioids, they are likely to give you less, not the extra you need..
 
Has anyone seen any codeine-aspirin combination products? The list that Anon gave on here seems to be kinda outdated, and as far as I can tell aspirin codeine is pretty rare in Australia and seems to mostly be an Rx type thing.

I got some in hospital, I think it was called 'aspalgin,' from memory 300mg aspirin/8mg codeine
 
Yeah codalgin is commonly given as a generic equivelant to panadeine, I've never seen aspalgin outside of the one time when I was in hospital.

& my liver is more important to me than whether I clutter BL with posts so could somebody tell me if the coffee filters I've been using, which are the "Harris" brand have been safe?
Should I go & buy he white coffee filters? Should I go & get my liver tested?
I'm sorry if this has been covered in the other 100 codeine threads but I don't have the time to read through them right now & my liver is very important to me.
This is a harm reduction site, saving someones life is more important than a little clutter in the aus dicussion thread!

Choosing the right coffee filters is hardly a life affecting decision :\

Unless you're otherwise predisposed, or are taking excess of several grams of paracetamol/ day, your liver will be fine, and NO, colour from using unbleached coffee filters won't hurt you. If you're health conscious, my advice is to have a full blood/liver function test done every year, or more regularly if levels are not in the "normal range".
 
For what it's worth, I've been using CWE'd codeine regularly (several times weekly, with a few breaks and a bunch of 3 - 4 weeks binges, as well as a plethora of other drugs) and my liver function tests have all come back fine. I think Mr Blonde mentioned he had his tested recently and had the same result?

Anyway, a thought, but since it's the same handful of people in all the codeine threads anyway, maybe they could volunteer to answer any questions? Put a note in the FAQ saying to PM so and so if you want to clarify anything.

Yeah well the few of us writing it will have it noted who wrote it anyway, and it's fairly evident who is active on the forum.

I personally have no problem with SOME codeine discussion, but i dont think the forum needs 10 threads on the main page..

As it currently stands, the threads seem to be "where has MDMA gone", "I love codeine" and the odd news thread.
 
Yeah I agree it's gotten a bit out of hand, I used to be all for allowing threads about whatever as long as they stayed within the sourcing/pricing guidelines, but lately we've had it seems a new codeine thread every day, which is unnecessary and probably not conducive of our continued ability to easily access and extract codeine.

Sadly, the Aussie drug scene has gone to shit lately, so I think a lot of people are looking in places they wouldn't normally bother with to get their buzz. With codeine you don't have to fuck around with dealers or suppliers, or worry about cops or exhorbitant prices or getting ripped off, so with the state the scene is in atm it's easy to see why it's grown in popularity, with a helping hand from the constant discussion here in AUDD.

Couple years ago after experiencing terrible stomach pain for nearly a week I went to the doctor and got sent for an endoscopy. They found 2 peptic ulcers in my stomach, caused as a direct result of careless and impatient extractions of codeine/ibupforen preps, which I was abusing often at the the time. Way too much ibuprofen must have been getting through. Had to take Nexium for a long time for them to heal. Still have digestive issues from time to time though.

I'm just saying for the sake of HR that if you're using ibuprofen containing brands frequently then make sure to take care with the extraction (I always use a cloth/shirt then multiple coffee filters now). Overuse with poor filtering can lead to peptic and potentially stomach ulcers with prolonged use. Some people are more susceptible than others to stomach ulcers also I'm assuming. My liver function tests came back fine however. If you're having stomach issues and use ibu/codeine alot, you may want to get it checked out.

Sorry if this is a little off-topic, just thought it was worth mentioning as worthwhile info for those doing frequent ibu/cod extractions.

Yeah my psychs ordered a liver function test amongst other things and after three years of near daily use the whole time it came back within the normal ranges, showing that the CWE I do with a shirt must be pretty damn safe.
