The last few months has been rough stress wise...ive ben taking valium for abou 3 months id say im down to 20mg a day...yesterday i took 15mg. I definatly notice a decrease in sex drive and sometimes cant achieve orgasm. I want to quit but dont want to withdrawl. I need to get back in action quick if you know what i mean...Can I just stop or should I continue to taper? I have klonopin too that I used to take and I dont rememeber having these issues with it. thanks in advance

I hear you my friend. I was taking diazepam for 6 months on/off. During that time i was with a girl for a couple days & once found i could get a stiffy just fine but orgasm was beyond reach!

You're best off looking through some of the valium tapers o this site & others. Dont taper with clonazepam as it has higher abuse potential. Otherwise see a doctor.

Actually my suboxone doc gave me the clonzepam said its less addictive than valium because of its longer haf life.....i just wanna know if i can quit the valium cold turkey after ive be doing 20mg ed

Unfortunately benzos are not really conducive to sex. You'll have trouble climaxing.

I was nervous the first time I was with two women, took klonopin, and couldn't cum. It was devastating.

Try something easier on the drive like neurontin or lyrica. Or some deep breathing excersice beforehand.

That's absolute nonsense. Unless your doctor is confusing the two terms, he's incorrect in stating one is 'more addictive' than the other. They both cause dependence in the same fashion, if anything valium will be easier to taper because of the longer half-life.

Unless by 'addiction' he meant the true definition and not 'dependency', which would mandate that klonopin is somehow more abuseable than klonopin, which is variable from person to person, therefore subjective and unpredictable

Who's this doctor of yours, and who does he work for?

;)

why would your doctor blantantly lie to you like that? its a well known fact among the benzo-culture than valium has a much longer half-life than clonazepam. Valium has a half-life of of up to 200 hours and clonazepam has a half-life of 20-50 hours.

Clonazepam has a much longer duration of action than Valium. IMO, Clonazepam is much better for tapering, especially if you are on high dose benzo's before hand. Valium is the most useless benzo out there IMO.

if youre trying to get off the benzos then klonopin is better than valium; longer half life and all that

Unfortunately that is not true. Approximate average half life of clonazepam (klonopin) is 18-50 hours and half life of diazepam (Valium) is 20-100. So on average Valium has double the half life of klonopin. They are both good for tapers as they both have one of the longest half life's of all the benzos, but Valium is preferred because it has the longest half life.

ASTON MANUAL - BENZODIAZEPINE ADDICTION AND CESSATION MANUAL

For those of you stating that clonazepam has a much longer half life than valium, can you guys please provide some sources because everywhere I look it says that valium has a longer half life than clonazepam.

Even, Doctor Ashton, the leading doctor on benzo addiction and tapering prefers using Valium for benzo tapers because it has the longest half life. Who would you be more inclined to trust...some doctor or the leading specialist on benzo addiction?

Also, abuse potential of each benzo is subjective as someone says. For some people valium might be easier to abuse and for some klonopin. I personally find valium much more euphoric and relaxing than klonopin. I can see myself getting addicted to valium much faster than to clonazepam. My doctor also didn't really like prescribing valium because he believed more people get euphoria from it than from klonopin. So just cuz your doctor said something doesn't make it true. People are often wrong and just cuz you are repeating the words of a doctor doesn't make your words correct.

OP...if you didn't have these issues with klonopin and you still have some left my suggestion would be to try and taper with the klonopin . Since it has a long half life you can still use it to taper and be comfortable. Just adjust your dose accordingly. Ashton manual has the equivalent doses of benzos. Go there and find out how much klonopin equals how much Valium.

Good luck with the taper and getting rid of your problems. I am currently going through something similar but not from benzos. It really sucks not being able to get an orgasm. I haven't had an orgasm in god knows how long. I still want to have sex all the time it just that I can't cum. So f'n irritating. Once I give birth to my kid I'm going to lower my methadone dose to an amount that will not cause sexual problems but I can't right now cuz it might be bad for the baby in womb. Sex is still good but its obviously much less satisfying without orgasm. Pregnancy hormones are making me super horny and then methadone us causing me inability to orgasm. So we have sex everyday pretty much w/o me getting an orgasm. Rocks for him and it's a little shitty for me. The sex is still amazing, but I want a freakin' orgasm!!!! No matter how hard I try I just can't get there.

only one person stated this, and he probably meant his doc just said clonazepam lasts longer

diazepam has a longer half life but shorter therapeutic duration of action

Clonazepam does NOT have a longer half life than Diazepam, but it has a much longer duration of action.

Diazepam has never done jack shit for me, even at doses of 100mg.

But that is just my opinion.

I will add my vote to the count: diazepam has a longer half-life, clonazepam has longer therapeutic action.

Benzos in small doses will make sex more enjoyable for me (and I can last longer =D) but on the other hand, large doses will make you unable to achieve an erection, just like being too drunk, and you may be unable to climax. Also, prolonged benzo usage will decrease your libido.

I've found Diazepam easiest to taper with because of it's larger dosing and it's longer half-life.

15mg a day isn't a large amount, you should be able to taper relatively quickly. I take 25-35mg daily and can miss dosages for days w/o any side effects, ymmv. I'm surprised 15mg is enough to give you a noticeable effect towards sex, much less stop you from orgasming.

Alot of good input but guys what should I do to taper this? Last night I didnt take any valium all day...instead i took .5mg xanax before bed to sleep....(was like a porn star that night too without taking any valium all day) Today I havent taken anything but i feel like shit so I might take another .5mg xanax i know the half life is shorter....i have plenty of val,xan and clon I just want to be done with them.....along with the fucking suboxone that ive been on .5 (yes 1/4 of the 2mg tab) for the past month and cant taper off.

the proper way to taper benzos is really fucking slow. this website goes into great detail about the process, it's a UK dr's site, with lots of experience treating dependent people

http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/bzcha02.htm

i reccomend all the main sections;
• Chapter I: The benzodiazepines: what they do in the body
• Chapter II: How to withdraw from benzodiazepines after long-term use
• Chapter II: Slow withdrawal schedules
• Chapter III: Benzodiazepine withdrawal symptoms, acute & protracted

a proper taper should have your heart rate up a couple beats for a week or so after dropping the dose a very tiny bit, without much w/d symptoms. this makes it less disruptive and allows your body to catch up with what's happening

if you can't taper fast or medium, quicker tapers are rough and hard (unless you run out, it's really hard not to take more when you're quite not yourself and feel like you may crack at any point) but there are drugs and behaviors that help. if you have a lot of motivation to quit, you might not have the time for a long taper (which could be anywhere from 3mo to years)

most hospitals do detox with a quick taper, a matter of weeks. often they don't taper you off benzos but give another drug that effects gaba transmission and then they taper you off of that (less controversial to give those to addicts i guess)

tapering/quitting is very disruptive, and habits that help like exercise, diet, showering, socializing, will probably be disrupted. try to get back on those as soon as possible so you don't lose the habit. i try to take my own advice but benzo/opie w/d makes things feel a lot more exhausting/taxing than they actually are

it's not gonna be easy and you won't feel right for some time. you're gonna get a big rebound of any symptom benzos helped alleviate. you have to really understand in your head that it'll get better, that generally people seem to have a lil less anxiety after a year off (tolerance seems to get to the point where paradoxical effects occur in many people, including me)

it can take up to 2 years for some symptoms to fully dissipate. it can take up to 1 year for them to calm down to very low levels. most symptoms take up to weeks or months to dissipate. all depends on dose and length of habit of course. the symptoms that last so long are the ones included in "post acute" w/d

I am currently going through something similar but not from benzos. It really sucks not being able to get an orgasm
one of the great things of benzo and opiate w/d is getting 10 orgasms in a row :/

the best thing about benzo w/d is getting a back or arm rub. body goes crazy and sensations are really intense (some people need sunglasses cuz things are so bright!)

you've got to be kidding. yes clonaz has a longer duration but a shorter half-life. valiums half-life is what makes it such a great tapering method.

valium is basically the set standard for benzo tapering:\ such as qwe and zyggy have pointed out with dr ashtons tapering manual.

When people are tapering from high doses of benzodiazepines, Valium isn't all the great since it is one of the weakest benzo's out there with pretty shitty effects IMO. I have taken doses of 100mg at once of diazepam and not much anxiety relief from it, or not much notice of anything really.

Clonazepam CAN be used to taper successfully as well.
