Mods, I apologize if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it if necessary.

So I've been on Percocet 5/325 and then 10/325 for chronic pain (few months now). It's worked well and I have had no problem with it. The doctor wanted to give me something pre-bedtime so I could sleep at night since the Percocet is considered a short acting med. He prescribed Embeda. First the pharmacy had a hard time getting it, which I should I have taken as a sign.

Earlier in the week I developed a Migraine headache that lasted a day and a half. I thought it might be a PMS headache. Then this morning I woke up with severe stomach cramping which snowballed into vomiting and horrible diarrhea. After I recovered somewhat I called my doctor because I knew exactly what it was and he said to stop taking it immediately. No shit. I've now missed 2 and a half days of work because of this. I did do research before taking Embeda and some people actually found it effective for pain relief and had no side effects.

I just wanted to warn everyone because I've never had such horrible side effects from any kind of medication. Stay away from this stuff. :(

Thanks for the advice.Never heard of Embeda tho, is it a benzo, barbituate, muscle relaxer or what? Not an opiate for sure is it,altho I can't remember every brand name for every opiate..lol I never heard of it being an opiate or heard of it at all till I read this..anyway thanks for the advice ,if i see any of that stuff I will avoid it.

Yeah cuz it's morphine and naltrexone =/

i'd go bitch at that doctor

If you didn't crush or alter the cap then the naltrexone should not be active

Since it is morphine that could be why you got sick

It was opiate withdrawals regardless

Ugh--that actually makes sense. It probably was withdrawals. Dammit. I didn't crush or alter the cap but who knows how these things work. I can't believe they would give this shit out to people.

um, there would be no problem unless you slept over the amounbt of time it says to take it.. IE every 8 hours, every 6 hours

Morphine is a perfectly acceptable opiate

Interesting considering my doctor prescribed it 1x per day at bedtime, so I would only be taking it every 24 hours.

While Morphine is an acceptable opiate for most, it's possible that it's not for me. Thanks.

Yeah, if yoiu're on morphine you're best taking it for all day

Thats what it's meant for

You mentioned that your doctor had you on Percocet for two reasons. Does he still have you on it for one of them? I ask because it doesn't make since that he would switch you to the morphine just at night if he had you on the Percocet for whichever reason during the day for your pain also. If this is so, that really sucks and you have my sympathy. Maybe you should ask for a higher dose of the Embeda.

Thats always scary, needing to take a higher dose of what made you sick in the first place...

The original poster was sick from withdrawals.

And I know how he felt, as it took me a while before I required taking the embeda -100mg , 2x/day to keep withdrawals to a minimum...

You really need to take this stuff the right way, and that will require a steady increase in dose for a while and much sweating until you get it (or the doc gets it) right...just try to make each dose last as long as you can. You'll get a warning with a nice hot flash and sweating when your body needs more, so just learn to read the warnings. I was careful to not tell my doc too much, I would just say each month that it was losing it's effectiveness after the third week and that it seems like a higher dose is needed.....

When you take it right you feel great, normal, etc....no actual high or anything, but it helps the perc 10/325's I take 4x/day to continue to manage my back pain nicely.

Also, you should keep an old pill on hand in case you start to sweat in public, or at work, then split it open and put some of it on your toungue to stay normal until it's time to take the next dose....

So, Embeda works for me, but I can see that this will require some help to get off of, and my pain doc says he will help me with that...still, I'm not looking forward to it.

Matt

Thanks for all of the replies everyone. To be honest, all of these pills are starting to scare the crap out of me and make me feel like shit. I'd rather be in pain than be dependent on this stuff for the rest of my life.

I've been on the Percocet for 7 weeks now. I'm done. Took my last pill yesterday around 1pm, so it's been almost 24 hours. Starting to feel a little warm and my lower back hurts. I'm expecting the worst, but a few days of hell is worth getting my life back.

Thanks again for the responses.

GoodMorning, This is my 1st time here and I have a ?. I have been taking Norco 10/325, Oxycontin 60 mg, Ativan 1 mg for some time now. My Doctor (yesterday) took me off the new oxycontin and wants me to start the Embeda 60mg 2.4 now. I am a nervous wreck when it comes to taking something new. Can anyone please give me actual user info on this medication? I have never nor do I plan on ever crushed or snorted or injected my pills, I have had to empty the capsul into applesauce 1 time because it was just to large for me to swallow but as a norm... I take my pills whole as directed. So please if anyone can give me some info from Personal experience of taking this Embeda 60 mg I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You!

Well if you dont abuse it then you have nothing to worry about, it's just like taking any other Morphine ER...........but I believe you should be on a higher dose if you were taking 60mg of oxycontin. The equivalent dose of morphine would be 90mg.
