My 12 yr old and drug suggestions?

Risperidone is very unpleasant, the effects have often gotten me enraged. Agitation is a side effect, along with alot of other serious side effects.

^ Yeah, the best thing for her is to talk about it and get it all out of her system. It's when they let the feelings harbor inside them, is when deeper issues start to form. It's excellent that she is willing to talk about what happened, as many children are not. Communication is going to be key for everyone to get through this, as it plays a big part and is a huge step. I wish your family the best.

I have to agree on how easily meds are prescribed to children these days. Which I think in the long term has more of an impact on how they mature & grow then anything else. It's not good to be messing with the brain's chemicals when the brain itself is still growing and trying to get things sorted on it's own.

Thank you FM. It's really good she's so open to talk about it and that she told. Most kids are afraid something bad will happen if they tell. And if they do tell, most won't talk about it hoping it'll go away. I'm so, so glad she trusted me enough to come to me about it. We talk about it almost everyday until her comfort level is past then we stop and just talk about general things. I reassure her everyday it's not her fault and if anyone should be ashamed it's her dad.

Meds are handed out like candy anymore and I don't agree with it. Like you said...in so many words, their little minds have enough going on without adding drugs to it.

Yeah, you have made huge progress already by just having her speak about it. It's going to take time, but you seem to have a good relationship with your daughter, which can be nothing but helpful to her during these times. Like I said I wish you all the best, and PM me if you ever need to chat.

That is one sick muthafucka to incestually molest his daughter, he deserves to be tortured to death slowly, and to whoever else. I've dealt with police too much in my life and spent a lot of time in prison, while it may not be reasonable for me to kill them it is what I would do, just as if someone were to be foolish enough to call the police on me for whatever reason I would kill them and shoot it out with the police when they got there, the police gang up on you and are authorized to use lethal force to make you "comply" well I will use Lethal force in my resistance to their orders simple and plain, you can call me stupid, crazy, irrational, whatever but that is how I am.

The big problem in america that almost all doctors prescribe thousands of different prescriptions. Shes only 12 and she takes Tenex, Trazodone, Risperdal (sp) and Zantac. When i was 12 i didnt feel like i need some PILLS, and all my friends were just fine. Yes maybe there are some 12 years olds who have some disorders(for real) but, how many are just fine..Prescriptions for pills..to make money for big PHARMAs. MAybe its the problem that you should take care after you child more, before giving her Antidepressants. Maybe she is just Spoilt.

^ I have to compile of meds that my two step-brothers are on. You guys would shit.

Bi polar is often missed and diagnosed as ADHD in children.

I was heavily medicated as a child and I have alot of problems now because of it. So research every med. Risperdal is nasty shit. Be really careful. I messaged your yahoo!

As is Autism, Aspergers, Depression, Anxiety, Brain damage (To the frontal lobe/pre-frontal cortex)... And really, any LD

My son has Aspergers and I really think my daughter has a form called PDD.

She's not spoiled as eLW mentioned. This child has been through HELL. Raped, touched by her father, beat, tossed into foster homes b/c he didn't want her then he did then he didn't. I've been fighting for her for 7 years and finally the courts saw what I did and gave her to me so don't tell me any bullshit about her being spoiled or that I need to raise her better. Personally that poster can fuck off.

I agree! Now a days every child in the world has *ADHD*. It's ridiculous! In my daughter's case I think she needs meds but she does not have ADHD. My brother had that and he really did. This child just has other issues but certainly not ADHD.

What happened to the days of smacking a child on the bum and being a parent without worrying about CPS being called on ya? I'm not saying she needs that, but in some cases she does just act out to see how far she can get.

When I was a kid, one of my friends used to have black, purple and blue bruising up and down his body after being disciplined by his mother, she beat him with pots and pans. Based on that I dont support the use of violence on little children. Some parents went too far and kids had to be protected from them. A definitive "you dont hit kids" rule is very clear.

Of course different cultures have different guidelines and one rule doesnt fit all, but I think its best if you dont resort to violence because that crosses a line and then it gets harder to respond in a parental way after that, kids brush off the physical bit anyway, the pain goes away, and then there is another boundary to push.

Sorry to hear about your girl, meds are pretty difficult to get right, it takes time to find a combination that works, everyone is different. If you can afford it and if it is possible, get multiple opinions from a different range of experts.

There is lots of psych med discussions in this place http://www.crazyboards.org/forums/

It sounds like you need support as much as your daughter, dont underestimate the impact of what you are going through, it is exhausting and probably feels like a thankless task, support groups for parents are available.

There may be some yahoo chat rooms as well.

Most people dont expect their children to turn crazy on them, and so dont automatically know the best techniques to deal with it. Learning specific techniques for behaviour management is another positive way forward.

Thank you. I definitely need some support. I knew I was taking on a lot but never imagined everything that came with it. Including her acting out and behavior which has turned to hell. I know she's gone through a lot so I try to let *some* of it to slide but when the swearing and hitting starts I'm at a loss. :\

Nexius wasn't trying to be rude to you. He is not like that. Just mentioning other things can be overlooked and called "ADHD". He is good people I chat with him often. Very intelligent and has alot to offer to this board.

It wasn't Nexius, it was eLW that said she's just spoiled and I need to raise my child better. That's the one I said can fuck off.

Oh okay. No she's not spoiled she has been through hell... unless eLW supports child rape and abuse... in that case he can eat a dick... I told you what I do to people like that yesterday :)

It's kinda hard to spank a 12 year old...

lol

Yeah i wasn't tryign to be rude... just putting other possibilities in the open.

It's a very hit or miss diagnosis... I went through alot of testing, IQ Tests, ADHD tests, the works...

As a kid, Severe-Combined type ADHD

Which as a adult the hyperactivity manifested into internal restlessness (took me a while to figure it out)

Doin much better that i got back on the meds for it

It's difficult

I had a VERY hard time adjusting to the ADHD medication, cuz there so many things I had suppresed or created coping mechanisms for... well, it was different when i got on them..

best thing was talking, and working things out within myself

Oh and thanks violenza

I'm glad you got on medicine and you're doing much better! I'm sorry if it came across as me telling you to fuck off. It wasn't you! Your post was very helpful and I do believe she has PDD and PTSD.

I just replied to eLW in the same post so I wouldn't double post.

Again sorry Nexius, you've been very helpful to me in many threads! :)

Oh yeah, um...

I have PTSD too, but in all respects... I don't take anything for it, it's best to talk those things out and work through them.

You don't want to numb youreslf from the situation, it'll never go away then.
It's a easy way out to take benzos for that, yes i've done it... and I am not ripping on anyone, but for me.. it's best to work those things out!

I only take 1 medication for adhd... yeah the anxiety can suck from PTSD/GAD or what have you, try supplementing 5HTP instead, or taking alot of protein
