Hey!

So I dont know if anyone here listens to much country music, and to be honest I dont much either, but some of the older country music carries with it a message with which I identify.

But heres my question about Charlie Daniels. He seems to offer contradictory points of view on certain things. In his song Simple Man there is a verse about giving tougher penalties to "dope dealers" yet he mentions smoking marijuana in Long Haired Country Boy, so is he for or against it? My personal interpretation of that is that he was refering to actual hard drug dealers who push substances that are tearing apart the community, especially with the way meth and oxycontin have impacted the rural community in particular.

Any thoughts?

Maybe he was referring to heroin when he sung about dope?

That's what I was thinking.

Also, Long Haired Country Boy came out a long time before Simple Man, so maybe in the meantime he rehabilitated and saw the err of his ways :D
