So I usually only toke like once or twice a month...just as a random fun thing to do with the girlfriend or with some friends.

I had a joint thursday nite due to boredom etc...
And now (saturday night) I find myself in the same situation..and considering toking up again..maybe kick back and watch a few movies etc etc..

I feel like I could be starting to get into a habit tho. I dont want to smoke too much so that it starts affecting me whilst sober..eg slowing down my mind, damaging my lungs etc..

I dunno if im just being paranoid or what!

Input / discussion welcomed :)

I think you will be okay. Just don't become dependent on it like i am. I try to sleep without it, but its kinda hard, but sleep comes eventually. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

i dont think your just being paranoid. i wish i would have been a little more careful when i was first getting into it. I started out pretty much at the same rate as you- just a few times a month. then it slowly became more and more of a habit. right at first i'd smoke about 1-2g's a week, and i'd always blaze with friends. it was purely a social thing at first, like drinking with friends. once it became the 'thing to do' as in whenever i kicked it with my friends it was understood that we'd be blazing, i started dropping all my friends that didnt blaze. felt like i had nothing in common with them anymore.

anyways, i got really lost in the plant and its culture. i started blazing every single day, alone, with friends, where ever and whenever. started carrying it on me wherever i went, and if i didnt have it my mind couldnt relax till i got a sack. went from smoking a dub a week to a dub a day to a dub in a single blaze session. at my peak, last summer, i was smoking between 3-7gs a day, and thats all i was doing. it became my main priority, didnt give a fuck bout anything else. and thats really the danger of this drug- it can remove your ability to care about anything besides getting high.

now im not saying i am like everyone, and that moderation is impossible, because that is not true at all. I know i was, and still am extremely irresponsible when it comes to blazing and its something i still struggle to deal with on a daily basis. I actually loose weight when i stop smoking cuz i have no sober appetite, cant sleep without it, and hate getting out of bed without atleast a few hits. not to mention im usually bitchy as all hell if i dont got it.

my story is about the same for most stoner i know, except i went a little further over the deep end. i guess part of me wanted to see how deep the rabit hole goes. part was trying to run from something. but honestly, i find it more addicting then coke. not a minute of my day goes by that i dont want to spark a bowl, but unless its at a party or im with a down ass chick, i'll pass on a line.

im sure you'll be fine if you keep it down to a few times a week/month. the only problem is whether or not you CAN keep it in moderation. just know your limits and watch yourself- if you see yourself starting to go down hill, STOP. do something that is actually going to make a change for the better. i think smoking only became a problem when i started using it to solve my problems.

In my opinion, I wish I hadn't just smoked for the sake of it - it's such a fun thing to do, which is the problem, but it soon becomes an 'addictive' habit. I wouldn't worry about smoking a couple times a week if you like it, and I doubt this will affect you when you're sober, however it's something to consider that you may find yourself thinking about weed more and more if you get into the habit of smoking.

I think you should go ahead if you really wanna smoke, just maybe consider only smoking when you really want to, to avoid 'smoking for the sake of it'.

it really has to be every day before smoking can even remotely become a mental/physical health problem. even then a lot of people arent really negatively effected. having just the general lazy pothead mentality is the worst thing thats happened to me after 2 straight years of all day every day type puffin

It won't start effecting you while sober so soon, but a lot of us who smoke daily and have for 5+ years probably have some regrets at this point. Just doing it whenever you need a little spice in your life is probably best...even a few times a week is acceptable. As a daily smoker, this is more of a warning...

sounds like someones one toke over the line..sweet jesus!
the addictive shit is a quote from Pineapple Express lulz. although i hated hearing that. there is no fuckin addictive shit anyway.

^ ha, maybe a bong is 'better' if you're comparing it to using a tinner or something crazy like that. Or smoking a joint that is made of receipt paper *eye rolls* haha.

As said, just don't smoke for the hell of it - or save it for special occasions, or make it (seriously and strictly) a weekend thing. A few times a week isn't bad, not in my opinion (and obviously many others). I used to smoke very regularly from about age 17-19 or 20. Now? I smoke about once every 2 or 3 months. I believe that (frequency of) smoking weed is something that can very easily be controlled IF you want to.

(Just read the reply regarding Pineapple Express quote - nice)

CC-It won't be a problem unless you make it one.

Just don't get into the habit of getting blazed wake and bake to until you go to sleep all day everyday and your entire life revolves around herb and getting high and nothing else.

I have friends who told me how when they were daily all day smokers they couldn't eat food without smoking first.

This describes my grad school summer break being unable to find a job current life situation. It's not good, don't let it happen to you OP...keep it to special occasions.

There is no right or wrong answer to this question, it all comes down to how much you personally feel comfortable/happy using. If you find yourself smoking more than you really want and/or every time you get a little bored then maybe you should start to think about slowing down. But with that said, I don't you should let smoking pot twice in one weekend worry you too much ;)

How long have you been smoking every few months? Have you ever been a heavy/daily smoker and slowed down?

You ever suck cock for weed? That should be the barometer for when you start to have a problem with weed.

:D loved that movie

But in all seriousness, when you notice that you can't function anymore. As in you wake up in the morning and you want to hit a bowl, or you can't eat/sleep without hitting one first then you know you have a problem.

As long as your not using weed as an escape, I don't see why you should worry about using a few times a week. It's all about what you find tolerable.

Hell I've met people that smoke all day everyday and still lead professional lives.

Honestly, and I'm not trying to be condescending, you're worrying too much about it. I've smoked for years now and have zero negative cognitive effects from the habit. Yes, it is a habit though. It's a hobby and one that I really enjoy.

Sounds like you're young and probably pretty healthy. If this is the case, smoke all you want. Smoke several times a day sometimes. ENJOY yourself up until the point where it begins to become a problem. Then cut back.

Weed is such a fantastic substance that will take you places you never imagined. No shit.

NB

yeah pretty good advice i thinkl so far. Smoking a couple times a week isnt that much, and if youre not obsessing over it then it should be fine. Although i will say as far as smoking daily for years not affecing your mind, it probably does and you just dont realize it because its been years since you were sober for any significant period.

When i was like 16-19/20 i smoked all day everyday, and i never realized how much of an effect it was really having on me until i was able to quit for 6 months. I had so much trouble quitting it was insane. Like trying for years and never going more than 5 or 6 days. But once i finally made it for 6 months the habit was broken. When i did start blazing again it wasnt nearly as fun as i remembered it being, and ever since then ive been able to smoke as much or as little as i wanted with no problem. Being able to have a couple grams sitting in a drawer and not even thinking about it was pretty novel at first.

ive went through the whole process of smoking once a month to three joints a day at an incredibly slow rate and i was still unable to stop at a certain point. i smoked only on weekends for the longest time and that was probably the best solution. although i did waste a lot of weekends that i could have spent partying and getting layed. when i was about 20 i started smoking close to daily, but only a small joint every evening. once i moved out at 22 i started smoking significantly more. three joints a day were pretty standard for me. and thats where it got to the point where i didnt do it for a reason. it was just a habit.

a habit which i am trying to break right now by not buying any weed. i will still get stoned every two weeks or so with friends but thats it. i wish i could have a couple grams sitting in my drawer but thats just impossible at this point in time.

my advice is this: dont buy weed for yourself. you can buy some for a party or a session, but never buy it for yourself.
