Questions re: types of 5-meo-dmt and their appearance

I acquired some 5-meo-dmt, a new drug for me. In reading up on it, most people seemed to refer to it as being white and crystaline. However, what I received was tan and very fine (not crystaline). A friend with substantial experience with this substance said that he had never seen it look like this.

I found an older thread on another "harm reduction" site where a person raised a similar concern, and the consensus seemed to be that he had been sold the hcl/salt version and not the freebase version, and he'd need to convert it to freebase in order to smoke it.

This sounded odd to me because, to me, the white crystals most people describe sounds more like a salt than this fine, tan powder. I e-mailed the person I acquired it from and was assured it was freebase. So I wonder if all these people getting white crystaline 5-meo-dmt are actually getting the hcl/salt version.

Does anyone know FOR SURE AND WITHOUT A DOUBT what 5-meo-dmt freebase looks like as compared to the hcl? Any other info on the differences would also be welcome.

Mods -- I didn't add this to the 5-meo-dmt "big and dandy" thread since I have a specific question in mind and if I bury it at the end of athat pre-existing thread, I think it will not get seen by as many people, so I'd appreciate it if this was NOT merged into that thread, at least not until the question is answered.

I've had tan powdery 5-meo before, was most defnitely very active when smoked.
 
I've got both 5-MeO-DMT Hcl and freebase.

The HCl is very fine white powder.

The freebase is tan crystals (the color is most likely due to long term storage).


Couldn't what you got just be crushed crystals?
 
i dont have much experience with 5 meo dmt.
But with nn DMT the freebase can be crystals, white or yellow.
And it can also be a powder ranging anywhere from white to brown (and ive even heard pink). And also it could come out as a brown yellow goo.
It really depends oon the person making it and his technique

So freebase can come in either form.

And if it is the hcl you got it will still be effective, though may require a bit higher dose.
Ive had success smoking the hcl form of aMT, DPT, 5 meo mipt, and 5 meo dmt (the 5 meo dmt hcl was a brown goo)
 
Also no direct experience with 5-meo-dmt, only n,n-dmt, but 2 things:

-Crystal and powder are not mutually exclusive. Small enough shards of crystal are pretty much indistinguishable from a non-crystalline powder unless you look at it under intense magnification. The freebase n,n-dmt I've seen has generally been of powdery consistency.

-At least with naturally extracted n,n-dmt, the color can vary dramatically based on the concentration of various impurities.

Assuming 5-meo-dmt has similar physical properties, I see nothing too odd about freebase coming as a tan powder.
 
also please note that N,N-DMT HCl and 5-MeO-DMT HCl salts do not crystallize, they stay as a goo. so if you have a crystalline form that you suspect is salt, it is probably fumarate or other organic salt that does crystallize.

remember the simple test for freebase vs salt:

a salt is easily and quickly soluble in plain distilled water.

a freebase is not.
