LEE COOMBS
** UNITED KINGDOM ** LOT49 // Ten In One Talent
http://www.LeeCoombs.com

Bending boundaries and ignoring the status quo - where would the electronic music scene be today without Lee Coombs? For over a decade this British producer has been at the forefront of it all; releasing groundbreaking mix CDs, remixing the world's most acclaimed artists and knocking out dance floor destroying productions that are considered classics years after their release.

A seasoned veteran, Coombs first hit the DJ slopes in 1989, bathing himself in the acid house scene at parties around London and Cambridge. Crucial in shaping his all-encompassing approach to DJing and production, this boundary-less approach would become Coombs' trademark, mixing up breaks, house, electro techno and acid with dexterous assurance.

In 1998 Coombs mad his first massive strike on the breaks scene as the prized recruit of then 'up and coming' label Finger Lickin', with the man's acclaimed album of 2001 'Future Sound of Retro' signaling his arrival on the world stage. The album struck a chord within the dance music community, so much so that respected industry figurehead Pete Tong noted him as the 'man to watch'. An 'Essential New Tune' accolade soon followed courtesy of Tong, with Coombs' re-rub of Quivver's 'One Last Time' making dance fans weak at the knees world over.

Such was the demand for Coombs, that luminary Paul Oakenfold was soon knocking at his door, resulting in the critically acclaimed Perfecto Breaks album of 2002. After landing the job of remixing Oakenfold's "Time of your Life" and then further re-rubs for world class acts such as Moby, New Order, Lamb and Planet Funk, Coombs' status as one of the industry's most in-demand artists quickly developed. Even the BBC was under the Coombs spell with them flying him over to Prague in the summer of 2003 to record the theme music for the television program "Born to Win" with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.

Ever the musical innovator, Lee Coombs' 2004 album release "Breakfast of Champions" signaled a significant evolution in his sound. Collaborating with some of the most respected artists in his field - from Dylan Rhymes to Christian J, Andy Gardner (Plump DJs) and Jem Panufnik (Soul of Man), the album charted the ambitious new territory of Tech Funk, injecting the Breaks sound with butt-shaking elements of House, Electro and Techno. It was a style Coombs would make his own, alongside fellow innovators Meat Katie, Elite Force and Dylan Rhymes. Featured on the acclaimed album was the cracking single "Shiver" (feat. Katherine Ellis) which was snapped up by classic house imprint Azuli and became one of the biggest vocal house anthems of 2005, whilst the "Alright All-Night/Dubhead" and "Obsessional Rhythm" singles went straight to no.1 in the DJ Mag Beats & Breaks Chart.

Departing Finger Lickin' for new pastures in 2005, Coombs' focus shifted to releasing music through his own Thrust Recordings imprint as well as Adrift and Meat Katie's Lot49(then Whole9Yards). It was at this time that he started his Thrust club nights in San Francisco, with the quarterly event becoming one of the hottest tickets on the West Coast.

When he is not in the producers chair, Coombs regularly tours all corners of the globe and is a bona-fide fan favorite throughout Europe, the USA, Australia, Asia and of course the UK. His popularity has also ensured his repeat appearance at infamous festival "The Burning Man" in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada.

In an industry that's so often governed by trends and fads, Coombs' unwavering ability to simultaneously destroy dance floors and push musical boundaries almost 20 years since he first touched a pair of turntables is a remarkable achievement in itself. With plans to further spread his production wings to writing music for film and TV, as well as producing bands, there's little doubt that his impressive sonic skills will be rocking ears for many years to come.

AK1200
** ORLANDO, FL ** // Big Riddim Records // Planet of the Drums
http://MySpace.com/daveak1200

The Godfather of DnB in America, AK has been the link between the music and the fans and dj's alike in the states ever since its inception. He is the longest running DnB DJ in the USA, and was the first to give exposure to hundreds of UK based DJ's and producers. His annual Planet of the Drums tour, alongside fellow comrades Dieselboy and Dara and hype man Messinian has been the most successful running electronica tour since it began in 2000. Over the years, AK has released 8 mix CD's, and 1 artist album, along with several singles, and has remixed countless well known electronic acts such as: Crystal Method, Rabbit in the Moon, Keoki, Dub Pistols, Cirrus, Freestyle, Rachel Wallace, Tribe called Quest, and many more. His remix of Cleveland Lounge's "Drowning", was in regular rotation on radio stations all over the USA, and is widely viewed as the most well known DnB tune in America, and was in dance charts all over the world. His 8 year stint as head of A&R with longtime friend Rob Playford, on Playford's legendary Moving Shadow label, has helped make AK one of the most influential DnB figures on the globe.

In 1996 he was asked to do a compilation mix CD for the first Sub Base USA release, titled Sub Base classics. Shortly after that he was picked up by the biggest electronic label in the USA at the time, Moonshine Music, and released 4 mix CDs with them through 2001. Each CD had landmark sales for any DnB artist or DJ.

AK1200's popularity and stellar reputation caused him to be a sought after remixer for several artists and labels worldwide. Several of these remixes went on to be licensed to video games, film and other various media formats. He went on to release one other mix CD after his original artist album, 'Shoot to Kill', which were both released on Run Recordings, a subsidiary of Lakeshore Entertainment, a Paramount company. To date AK1200 has sold over 500,000 units combined worldwide, and is one of the most well known names in the United States for dance music. He has consistently been included in the Top 100 DJ's for each year in the states.

In 2000, he teamed up with friends Dieselboy and Dara to form an American supergroup called 'Planet of the Drums'. This came with the intention to bring their sound to the forefront of the dance industry, for the most part DnB DJ's weren't given fair treatment compared to other DJ's in the dance community. Before 'Planet of the Drums', there was no main stage for this music, and there were no successful tours to promote DnB. DJ's from the UK hardly came to the US and didn't have the fanbase they do now. Promoters never received the attention from the DnB community to warrant any kind of reaction. This was all changed single handedly by Planet of the Drums and all their efforts. They went on to become the most successful annual electronic tour to last more than 9 years, and show no signs of tiring.

Press Release from Midwest-EDM.com!

During the last ever SBSIT (Seismic Bass / Shake-It-Town) event [Light It Up 3] at the Congress Theater this past Saturday night the owners of SBSIT took the stage and announced that the event was going to be their last. After a pause to let bewilderment set into the crowd they announced the formation of their new company DAY ONE EVENT PRODUCTIONS!

DAY ONE was created to bring massive electronic music events back to Chicago to, in essence, put Chicago back on the map. When asked in an interview after the show, Rick Lashes (the former owner of Seismic Bass), stated that "SBSIT was kind of like practice for us... We now have the know how, the connections, the venues- Basically it's time to 'put up or shut up' and you'll see what I mean when we announce our first event under Day One in the coming days." - Well days later here were are and DAYBREAK has been announced with a line-up that's pretty ridiculous on top of claims of a unique "virgin venue" that is sure to amaze party goers near and far. When asked why they chose the name DAY ONE, Bob 'Hoss' (the former owner of Shake-It-Town) chimed in and explained, "This company is the culmination of everything that we have been trying to do since 'day one' so it just fit perfectly when it was suggested."

The event 'DAYBREAK' boasts international headliners long side an extremely diverse lineup that dips into the Midwest's deep well of top bill talent from almost every city within 300 miles. It's not only the line-up that makes this event unique, but the fact that there will be three top quality stages - no chintzy setup's here! DAYBREAK promises to be the first event of its kind, in Chicago since the hay days at the turn of the century.

So there you have it - Will Chicago be put back on the map? That all depends on the support and how this event is received. Will the people of this great city believe in this event & support it in force to make it truly massive? Time will most definitely tell.

Tickets are slated to go on sale Midnight on May 1st only at DayOneChicago.com for a limited $25 then increasing to $30 once those sell out. For a production of this magnitude the pricing seems rather aggressive so grab those tickets up before they are gone! As they say, its gonna be "More at the door!"

Flier posted up! Tickets will be available online tomorrow (sorry for the delay) and also at NASA this weekend with no service fees!

Veteran party-goer here........

....................................................am i just jaded or :

[email protected]......
[ NOT PUTTING THIS PARTY DOWN, IN FACT I MAY GO, NEED TO GO UP TO THAT AREA ANYWAY SOON....] .......however after going to M.any E.nraged M.osquito F.ield a couple
years ago i was set not to go back up to chi for another party.........but.........
......this does seems soooRavey..........hmmmmmmm....

Well we are now DAY ONE event productions and this is our first party. Its kind of symbalism for a new day or a new era... Thats why we called it daybreak.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience at MEMF, that was not us and not how we do things. We didn't call our selves DAY ONE for no reason :)

As far as the cover, well you can get presales for $25, but on top of that, when you see this venue and the production we are bringing out long side this pretty sick lineup, you'll understand ;)

Oh, BTW, we just added a 4th, out door stage so you smokers can chill outside if you want. Line up for that stage will be posted up soon.

Honestly, we were trying to work out a deal where people could call and say "daybreak" and get a deal on their room in turn for us recommending their hotel, however we could not get any deals in the down town area in the price range we wanted (~$99 a night)

Everything downtown is going to be like $140 at a MIN per night. I would look into hotels / motels out side of the city along your route and get something for like 60-80 a night if it was me.

Also, you should check that new Travelocity Top Secret Hotels, I found some pretty decent deals on there but the catch is you dont know exactly where it is or what hotel it is until you purchase your room... its a trade off but there are good deals to be had and they at least give you an "area" its in along with user ratings of said hotel so you know sort of what to expect.

yeap so we are going! pretty excited. new venue for a change in chicago and breaks djs what more could i ask for! :)
