He can't take ambien, trazadone, lunesta.. ect.. What benzos are commonly scripted for RLS? I shared some of my valium and it helps him but it has such a long half life.. Does anybody have this and if so what do you take? Any information would be greatly appretiated!

Edit: his RLS is not from WD's but I am sure eventhough it's not it acts the same way on the body and the ability to fall asleep.. He probably is deficient in alot of vitamins..

^ Yep that works well. I was given Ambien, but it was really RLS from opiate w/d.

Any benzo should work fine, something short acting like xanax. Or even some sort of muscle relaxer would work well. It's really just going to be trial and error with the above until something works.
 
does he have any vitamin deficiencies? Maybe try getting at the root of the problem before trying meds. Does he exercise? As that can help RLS. Meds tend to have rebound effects in the long run and make RLS worse after stopping the meds. Try something natural first or see if he has any deficiencies, mineral or vitamin or some other health problem. Thats what I'd do. If that doesn't work then go see a doctor and ask for some no addictive meds first.

RLS often has something to do with lack of dopamine thats why opiates work and why u get them bad during opiate w/d. Stuff like adderall and such can also help. There are tons of meds for RLS as I went to get some for my opiate w/d RLS. Anti Parkinson meds are often scripted for RLS as that is a lack of dopamine problem. I'd talk to a neuro doc if possible.
 
He isnt WDing from anything.. but he does need to see a dr. He is one of those men who refuses to go... last night was so bad he agreed to let me make him an appointment. He has been this way since I have know him... legs always going.. he has it bad.

I had no idea they used Opaites to treat it.. Unfortunatly opiates make him hyper. The valium helps him and will put him to sleep and stop his legs from going.. Thing is he is tired but the leg thing wont stop so he cant sleep. It's a fucking mess. The dr is going to do a full lab and physical so he will be checked out completely. He needs to figure this out.

Right now he is going to a primary, then they said they would refer him elsewhere if needed.

I am currently doing as much research as possible because he doesn't have time.. that way we will be armed with all the info we need when we see the dr.
 
yeah give him a small dose like 10 mg of oxycodone and his rls should go away, tell him HOT baths and heating pads work. stay hydrated and jog some do some leg stretches, tire the legs out to the point where they almost ache, then soak them in some epsom salt in a HOT bath , if that doesn't work throw and oxy down his throat.

^LOL oxy is like an upper to him.. hahahaha all that happens when he takes oxy is his dick gets hard and he wants to fuck all night.. so its a good time but not for nightly use to fall asleep.
 
Dopamine deficiency.
Iron deficiency.
Lack of movement.
Nerve damage.

These are the majority causes of RLS.

Requip, and Mirapex are the only two meds approved for this use.

Valium is commonly used too. Longer-acting benzos are the preferred type for RLS.

Anti-convulsive meds are also used a lot for this too.
 
Yea Jay, I have been sharing my valium with him and it helps him alot. But I told him he needs to go to a dr anyways cause he is one of those men who won't go to a dr. So he needs a complete physical.
 
Also due to his job he would need medication with a short half life.. incase he had to shoot someone.. so out of the medications used which would be the most effective with the shortest half life?
 
None, he would still miss the shot due to that annoying ass tingle, he would have to move. (I hate it so much.)

Clonazepam, is still a bet because it is not as sedating as Valium, and last just a little shorter.
 
A hot bath... yeah... a hot bath... I happen to only have a semi-functional shower... so I'll stick to opiates, thanks.

No fear of him missing the shot.. his fear is him shooting someone then possibly getting into some sort of trouble because he was being treated for a medical condition with medications that can "sedate" you. Even if they're used at bedtime.

He has tried both Klonopin and Valium and they both work... he just cant say... "yo doc, I tried my wifes valium and kpins and they helped alot.. " lol He only asks me for my meds on those nights when its like no way in hell he is getting to bed and it's 11 already.. he tries to avoid it at all costs.

His legs hurt all the time as well which in my research leads me to believe he has damaged them in some way.

Clonazepam is a really good benzo for RLS but it actually lasts longer then valium despite it's shorter half life.

If you want something that isint a benzo or opiate gabapentin and lyrica work really well for RLS. Ive used both to stop my RLS during opiate withdrawal many times. Plus i get RLS anyway but gabapentin usually stops it especially combined with clonazepam.
 
I Have RLS being an emt and befriending doc. who have access to bucoodles of goodies. really the best thing i've found is lil cannabis (or a very small edible bc it last all night, 1mg klonopin and 5 mg if flexeril for the bone problems) and take a bath in epson salt and soak.

The shitty thing about flexeril is that it can cause RLS due to it's heavy anti-cholinergic effects. I really wouldnt recomend it for treating RLS.
 
Opiates and benzos are fine as long as they have a short half life.. that is what he prefers..

He prefers what is tried and true.. he doesn't like weird off the wall medication that dr's like to give out nowdays, he is afraid when he goes in there they're gonna try to give him anti depressants, tramadol, and sleeping pills.. none of which he will take. lol He is very particular about what he will put in his body which is fine, and actually a good thing... but I am hoping the dr he see's is open to that.

He refuses to take muscle relaxers, sleeping pills, lyrica, neurontin.... he prefers benzos and opiates because while they're addictive.. they're in they're out.. basically no other shenanigans. Now, weed would be amazing if it were legal here. I think they have some of that anti anxiety govt weed. That would rule for both of us.. haha

I am gonna tell him about the epsom baths, we're getting a new tempurpedic mattress.. cloud supreme!! :D.. Along with something like Xanax or Temazepam and some Oxy IR should do the trick for him. I know my benzos work for him.. So hopefully the dr will script him benzos.

This is a pretty common thing then.
