Quick question: how much honey would one use to "preserve" about 20grams of dried shroomies....I plan on grinding them up and then mixing them with honey and making tea, and also to see how long they stay potent.

So, any idea of whats a good ratio of honey to mushy-gram?? :D

seems like a really good idea.. you have 20g of dried mushrooms? I would just try to get it so 1tbsp of honey will have 1g of mushrooms.. easy to measure and you won't have to eat tons of honey to trip

dunno, but honey is a good preservative, anti-bacterial, and it doesnt go bad.

That is why I be doing it. ;)

I'll probably mix 1 gram to the teaspoon, but I don't think its going to make for very scientific dosing. :\

I may just fiddle around a bit, I have fucking shitloads of mushroom-matter at this moment.

^ Sounds like a pretty accurate way to measure your dosage actually. It's a form of liquid measurement.

Divide 20 by the number of grams of mushrooms you take for a standard trip. Multiply by the preferred volume of honey per cup of tea. This is the volume of honey in which you should mix your mushy matter. Now one cup of tea = one standard trip. ;)

^I just wonder if the mushroom-material will stay steadily spread through such a molten medium as honey....? Probably depends on how well I spread it through in the first place- I guess if I essentially use mushrooms powder, I'll be able to work it through the honey no problems....

I've put about 400 mushies in a jar of honey before now, crumbly dried heads only, no stalks. They break down over time and the honey goes very dark and a bit earthy smelling, but i kept it in a dark cupboard for 3 years, only dipping a teaspoon in every now and again. V potent and easily stirred into a nice cuppa.

willow, powder shrooms will work better for mixing.

i can see over time chunks of whole mushroom might sink to the bottom perhaps, i dunno.

since youve got shitloads of shrooms, how about sending some my way man?? :P
nah but really, if you have a good amount, why not experiment? i would!

lucky sonuva...

yeah you want to make sure they are 100% dry and ground into powder. personally i would refrigerate after mixing

and after mixing shroom matter with honey, it's less of a liquid and more of a paste.

try adding cinnamon, ginger, or other spices (in powder form) for intense flavor

Yeah, I've got them ground up, I do need to crush it a bit more till its really powdery, but thats the plan. I wasn't sure about the refrigerating, but it can't hurt.

Ginger could be a good idea; I find it really settles my stomach, particularly as a tea :)

Good idea. Could make a really nice chai-style mushroom tea! :):)

A good way to ensure the dispersal of mushroom material is to get your jar of honey ready, fill a pot 1/2 to 3/4 of the way full with water, place the jar lid on the bottom of the pot and place the jar on top of the lid, then heat the water until the honey in the jar becomes more watery (but not too hot, you don't want to get rid of your magic), then mix in your powdered mushroom material. This method just makes it easier to ensure that the mushroom powder mixes in more evenly and doesn't clump together, and will also help you stir it without all the magic sticking to your spoon.

It's an excellent storage method as long as you ensure your mushroom material is 100% dry before mixing it into your honey as I believe water will cause your honey to begin to ferment if allowed to sit for a while. Also, make sure you use 100% natural honey, I don't think artificial honey preserves the psilocybin/psilocin as well. Have fun! :D

just made up a jar of honey with an ounce of powdered mushrooms it smells really cool

Won't refrigeration just make the honey incredibly viscous and impossible to work with? Honey is already antiseptic, so I don't see the necessity for refrigeration.

Throwing your mushies in the freezer for a couple hours will probably make them easier to crush to dust.

My mates ended up doing this and leaving it in for a week. Needless to say when they ate them they couldn't taste the shrooms and ended up having a strong/awesome trip.

actually TheAppleCore, you want to make the honey more solid for serving, as liquid honey is difficult to coax into a serving vessel without leaving a little bit on the utensil, your socks, and the cat. :) refrigerated shroom honey has the consistency of sticky-tack (the stuff you use to hang posters on teh wall)
