More Trichomes will make better BHO. I have heard of people doing small extractions with a plastic pen, but they would never tell me the yield.
Erowid says you should never use plastic as it can leach into the butane. A friend did it once with a plastic mini M&M's container and it worked perfectly. I wouldn't want to do it more than once with plastic though.

If anyone intends to extract oils with butane, two very important hazards must be respected at all times.
1) Flammability - the process should only be done outside, preferably in the open, and only when breeze is present, with operator/s positioned upwind.
2) Static discharge - this is a very real threat. The rapid change of state can cause static buildup. If this discharges around a cloud of escaping butane, no prizes for guessing what will happen. This procedure should Never be carried out on a dry day with low humidity.
It's also worth noting what has been said in relation to impurities in some brands of butane. Depending upon what these are, some of the less volatile, such as toxic thiols, could end up in the extract.
Considering these risks, if you are determined to make your own hash, and have limited experience or knowledge of the physical processes involved with butane, the far safer option would be something like the bubble method.
Legal: Also remember, in the eyes of the law, processing or possessing concentrated cannabis resin or oil is regarded as a more serious offense.

Since my relatively recent dip into the weed territory, I have always been keen to try hash oil!!!! It actually sounds like FUN. I was under the impression that the penalties for being caught with it may outweigh those of regular choof though.... stuff sure sounds potent!

I would have said chocolate or something, you may want to think about CLEANING YOUR BONG dude ! Its unhealthy and un-hygenic to have seedy as water in it for ages..
Its not cool to have dirty water...
I just empty it and put fresh water in daily man, and by the next day its not clean anymore so i have to put new water in.. I just empty it into my bath then refill. Its easy dude!
Then once a week i simply wash it with METHO + RICE = CLEANEST BONG EVER.
Bar the small part that stays black where cool air condenses..

Whenever I've done it, we use a bag of leaves and kiff, no buds. Cut itall up and cram into a two foot long, 32mm wide PVC conduit with end caps. 5 holes in one cap and a single in the other for the can.
In regards to phase dancers warning, we had an incident like this once. Lucky the pipe held it's integrity but the caps blew off and pretty much melted my shoe. Since then I connect a cable to the earth stake around the side of the house and have it run into the pipe with as much bare copper as I can. In theory, it should be enough to prevent arching within. I hope!

I for one do clean my bong weekly before use. But it's a colour most weed smokers will be familiar with. And I didn't say chocolate colour because it's not chocolate colour. It really is bong water colour, sorry but thats the best description and I'm sticking to it.
