Mushroom season 2010

They're definitely out in my area, I know cos the dreams started the last day or two with spectacular intensity, I'm just too lazy to go and look ;)

I have just received reports from the far SW of Vic. They are just starting to sprout in the chipped garden beds but no action in the forests as of yet.

S.A can't be far off, I suggest checking area's of higher altitude as this seems to be where they fruit first due to the colder all round temperatures

Yesterday's rain has sealed the deal for Melb hunters :)

woo fucking hoo
i think tomorrow morning calls for a hunt
almost 2 months earlier then i normally would go to my spot im thinking its gonna be colourfying the landscape
how u doin psilo?

It's truly cranking, the councils in many SE/E suburbs of Melbourne laid new mulch 1-2 years ago in many reserves and parks. Allot of the area's that were inoculated with spores are growing into healthy patches. It's been at least 4 years since I have observed fruiting in these numbers! The weathers been almost too cold in some area's. I'm finding some patches with frost bitten/blue bruising on pinning mushrooms already. Usually it's a month or two before I see this.

Today a middle aged Greek couple asked me what I was doing in the garden... I told them I was picking rare edible mushrooms. The guy got right into it, start picking some and I was force to show him which ones I was picking. I warned him that if not properly prepared they could cause serious side effects. He took a whole lot home.... I think he and his wife are going to have an interesting weekend! I feel sort of guilty but what was I supposed to tell the guy?

Bahahahaha, that is funny as.

Tell him your picking fucking drugs!!!! Jesus wept! Bad, bad form dude. OK to lie at first but once he is intent on eating them you should have 'fessed up :(

Mongman thats some seriously uncool shit, I mean I do understand that you have yourself to protect but I can't help but feel you could of evacuated the area before they could call the cops or anything and worst case scenario ditch your stash.

Mushrooms are a very powerful psychedelic drug and for a couple of most likely drug naive individuals to consume them unknowingly is a recipe for disaster that you are personally responsible for when you inform these people subs are edible. Why couldn't you say you were researcxhing poisonous mushrooms for uni or something?

Seriously dude, that was pretty uncool, you pretty much guaranteed a couples bad trip this weekend just so you didn't have to ditch a few shrooms.

No, my warning that they had serious side effects worked (saying they are not edible would have been lying). I saw the guy again today, he is fine, his wife wasn't walking with him. He didn't eat any and told me he was going to stick to the field mushrooms he usually picks.

(also it turns out he was from Spain or Ecuador not Greek, got that wrong to)

Oh, and the police don't really care. Usually they will request you drop the mushrooms until they leave, but advise that what you do once they are gone is none of their business.

Found more patches today, there are more than can be picked. Photo's later as I'm exhausted.

Hi all,
First post. My friend and I went on our first shroom hunt today NW of Melbourne.

Tell me what you think of our haul..
Any tips for preparation would be great!

^Im guessing this but I don't think they are magic mushrooms. Wait for a more experienced poster to correct me if im wrong.

Hilarious mongman =D be interesting to hear what he has to say if they do consume.

^ There are no ID requests on here, you gotta take that shit over to shroomery.org, dunno how many times it has to be said...

Shibada I would wager he was trying to pick amanita muscaria, not psilocybe subaeruginosa. I have never picked amanitas, so would not be qualified to ID them even if that was allowed here, but it isn't anyway.

I can't advise you on preparation of amanitas (assuming thats what those are) but I am sure it wont take psilo long to chime in with some useful info. Hope you've got the right ones there buddy, enjoy!

Mongman, sorry for jumping at you so quickly, but the way you said it the first time sounded grossly irresponsible, I am glad nobody ended up unwillingly consuming psilocybes. I still believe unless being questioned by the police or it is obvious the person isn't going to attempt to pick and consume some then you do have an obligation to warn people what these mushrooms are. Psilocybin is a powerful drug that has broken enough people who took it willingly, drug naive folks consuming it by accident could have some very serious impacts on them.

drug_mentor: I do agree, it could have disastrous effects on someone eating it unknowingly. The may I described the situation in my original post did sound quite negligent. Mainly due to my sincere concern I had not warned the guy off enough. Plus his wife turns out had just had surgery so it would have seriously screwed them over. Luckily nothing came of it

The above shrooms are def not psilocybes. Do not ever eat any unless u have identified them through atleast 2-3 experienced people. As to the other post above about lettin that couple pick unknown shrooms.

As if u would pick wild shrooms to take home to prepare a meal out of it. Thats just plain idiotic tbh. I mean come on how much is a kilo of mushrooms in the super market? Id rather fork out a bit of money knowing that i wont get sick or die. Just my 2cents.

With A. muscaria, not that i'm confirming that's what is pictured above. The trick is to dry the fruit then cook it at just the right temperature to convert the ibotenic acid into Muscimol which is around 10 times stronger than ibotenic acid. Be warned however this is a toxic substance and will kill you at the correct dose (~70 mg ibotenic acid or ~7 mg of Muscimol).

These substances are GABA agonists and as such can interact with many common prescription medications. BE CAREFUL.

I have tripped on these but's it's more of a delirium. At the right dose you go to sleep then wake up in a weird state not sure why you are the way you are. Some visual disturbance but's it's mainly delirium.

Lactarius deliciousness is the exception. I wish you could buy them around here!

Most of these photo's are from patches I inoculated two years ago & have only just started fruiting. One such area would cover about 50-100 m^2, too many to pick. I bumped into two girls from the Shroomery who had been looking all day at that point and were about to give up. They had never been picking before, so I shared what I could about identification in the short period I had available and offered them some mushrooms from the patch. I think they were happy.

wow dude, that is kinda funny and cool isnt it.

uh, no its not really. for a whole raft of reasons.

they could have too many and get really fucked up.
they could realise what is happening and dob you in to the police.
the police would fuck you up BIGTIME when they found you.
and they can find you.

tho,i guess you only showed him which ones, and he picked them himself. so thats possibly ok then.
anyway, that is just my paranoid responsible side.i dont want to get hard on you when i dont know the details.

i know you said about preparedness etc so did you mean if they , as people, wernt properly prepared,....or if the shrooms werbt prepared properly?

i think, i would have told them that they were magic mushrooms, so then they knew what they were getting themselves in for.

anyway, i hope they had an awesome time, and turn their friends on too.
you may find them out picking again.!!!
