A friend was in Spain recently & claims that codeine tablets can be bought OTC there, packs of 30 15ml, cheap as well...couple of euros.

can anyone verify this? cheers
 
Yes this is true, same here in England. They are more often than not Codeine and Acetaminophen. Over here they come in 5/500 and 30/500 (codeine/acetaminophen). Sometimes they contain caffeine as well. Sometimes it's codeine and ibuprofen.

Most of the that nasty Acetaminophen can easily be removed using "Cold Water Extraction" meaning you can take larger doses of codeine with less damage to your liver,do a search on here. there's loads of posts about it. Caffeine can be a lot harder to remove, and will often over power the effects of the codeine, which is annoying, but it's easy to find pills without the Caffeine in them.

But yeh, just do a search for Codeine, and Cold Water Extraction. You'll get all the info you need.
 
Do you mean codeine on it's own, Levvytation? Not sure about Spain, but I know you can't get it on it's own OTC in England. Just to add to what Jaymuhz said, it is only sold OTC in England when with another substance such as APAP or Ibuprofen.

Oh yes you can't find just codeine (without APAP or ibuprofen) OTC in England.

Wiki says "Spain: Codeine tablets and preparations of codeine and other drugs can be obtained over the counter in Spain where available, even 30, 45, 50, and 60 mg per dosage unit."

were as for England it says "In the United Kingdom, higher-strength codeine formulations - such as 30/500 co-codamol, where 30 mg of codeine phosphate is combined with 500 mg paracetamol - are prescription-only medicines (POM). Lower-strength combinations, such as 8/500 (various brands) or 12.8/500 (Panadol Ultra, Solpadeine MAX and others) are available as pharmacy supervised ("behind the counter") medicines."

I suppose this implies that in Spain codeine-only tablets are available, but this is wikipedia, so who knows ;)

Guess you'll have to go to spain if you really want to know. Or hope and english speaking spanish person stumbles over this thread.
 
The absolute highest amount of OTC codeine you will get in the U.K is 12.8mg and you have to ask for those.

If you are using codeine recreationally then please do the CWE, it's piss easy to do and might just save your liver (and one helluva stomach ache) :)
