Over the past few weeks I have had to deal with a customer that is totally blowing my mind. From my experience the behaviour is really really bizarre.
I just wanted to share and get your thoughts and also maybe you could in turn share any dealings you have had with odd people.
Some weeks ago i was asked by a mate to do some work at this guys place. They have just brought the house which is a multi million dollar home and they were pretty much renovating the whole thing.
I completed the work and gave the husband the invoice and he said he would pay it via his company.
I waited a month and still hadnt been payed so i rang him.
When I first got hold of him I was given a run down of how busy he was, the fact he was due in the supreme court for the next few days as he was being sued for 15 million dollars and in between he had to fly to Brisbane to do some million dollar business deals all the while trying to get his new company off the ground and also move into his brand new family home.
At this stage I had not even said anything other than hello.
The convo was had and was interrupted when the phone died.
We played phone tag a bit for a week and then finally he agreed to put things in writing which he did.
He had some greivances that really had absolutely nothing to do with us and it was all quite strange but thatsa not the weird part.
We spoke to each other via phone when he rang me last night and again, the first few minutes of the convo were him telling me all his plans for the next few days and how he was being sued for 15 mill and that he had a meeting today in Brisbane to seal a multi million dollar deal and had to make 4 interstate flights in the one day and he had just five minutes to talk to me.
Imsort of leaving out a fair bit as I quite simply cant remember it all.
Anyways eventually I got a word in and was able to bring the conversation to us getting paid.
He then took the attitude that maybe I didnt think we were going to be payed and so he started telling me how he was a multi multi (yes not just a multi but a multi multi) millionaire and how he owned te most expensive home in Glenhaven and that of course he could afford to pay me and that ............at this stage I butted in and tried to settle him down but then his attitude escalated mine and we had a bit of a argument for a few minutes which ended when he made the comment that I had no idea who I was dealing with and that he was a very successful businessman and that he was a multi millionaire and also that he had an IQ of 157. Then making the statement that I had no idea who I was dealing with.
Now by this stage I had absolutely had enough of this guy telling me how much money he had and how powerful he was and finally capped off with the IQ of 157.
I snapped and told him that I didnt give a flying fuck how much he was being sued for, how much his home was worth or how much he was worth or how powerful he thought he was or the fact he had an IQ of 157.............he then interrupted me and said and I quote.......... "What, so you think I am just another one of your sheep?"
I immediately answered Mate you mean nothing to me. Your just another human being that has come into my life.
Now at this point he seemed to settle right down and we actually got some discussion going and I am (hopefully) collecting a chq on Sat arvo.
I have had people show off a bit to me and specially been arround name droppers, Im sure everyone, myself included boast a wee bit about silly shit from time to time but this guy was like something i have never come across before.
It was a bit like he was a John Cleese character that was based on someone but taken to the absolute nenth degree except this guy was real.
Has anyone else ever encountered anything like that?
