Is my Marquis bad?

Great thread, I love BL.

Is Marquis supposed to be clearish-yellow? Ours is pretty much a golden color now. I tried testing some granulated sugar, and it didn't even react (from what I could tell)? We got some mdma in the past, and it was crystalline shards (pretty legit), and our Marquis hardly reacted with it. I take this as a pretty big pointer towards "buy a new kit"? Kind of a no-brainer, but I just wanted to get some input!

Yea if you test sugar and it doesn't react your kit is bad. Test some aspirin and see if it goes red.

From personal experience my marquis was very dark brown and did not react to sugar or aspirin right at 1 year. hth

I can normally tell that marquis is 'off' by it turning darker.... i think it oxides due to the air.

Maybe it would be a good idea to have a sticky thread... showing how a new kit reacts to a range of commonly available chemicals/foods/OTC products. This can be used as reference later... when someone wants to test that his/her kit is still usable.

It's interesting.. ... because this guy is demonstrating Marquis and Mandelin reagents using OTC drugs.
If we do this with new test kits ..
(a) .. it's good practice for doing it for real
(b).. we can build up a table showing how each reagent responds to a range of substances...
(c).. this information can be used later for figuring out if the reagents have gone bad, or not.
