German boffins say they have developed a miracle nasal spray which can make men into big girls' blouses.

Dr René Hurlemann of Bonn Uni's Klinik für Psychiatrie, working with colleagues in Germany, Arizona and Blighty, has just announced successful tests of the new girlification spray - whose active ingredient is the hormone oxytocin.

Hurlemann and his colleagues say they have proved the effectiveness of their devilish drug by means of tests in which ordinary, manly German men used the spray and were then shown photographs featuring among other things a sweet "girl hugging her cat".

Control-group German men who had been given a placebo rather than the soppiness compound reacted normally, either unemotionally or with mild discomfort. But the hapless subjects who had been given the drug showed “significantly higher emotional empathy levels", according to Hurlemann.

"The males under test achieved levels [of emotion] which would normally only be expected in women," says a statement from Bonn University, indicating that they had cooed or even blubbed at the sight of the affecting images.

"Many women have no doubt been waiting a long time for this," adds the statement.

According to Hurlemann and his colleagues, one role of oxytocin in women is the triggering of labour pains. It is also released in copious amounts, apparently, during an orgasm.

The boffins consider that their oxytocin spray might be handy as "medication for diseases such as schizophrenia, which are frequently associated with reduced social approachability and social withdrawal".

Legitimate news stories usually include the word "boffins." Oxytocin is already present in males and is thought to play a role in some emotional regulation. I'm sure similar results could have been achieved had they used the spray on women.

I don't know where the article is but I read that oxytocin has been called 'the trust chemical'. Apparently it lowers the need to distrust people. There's something called 'williams syndrome'. The people it affects have a much lower tris threshold that those without. Sk theoretically one could spray it in ur nose and u would trust everyone. Government could use it so people would obey them, schools so lies could be learned etc. It won't just turn you girly.
 
^ Conversely, people could use it on their government to make it obey them. Or at least use it on those fascist cops who persecute peaceful people.
 
Oxytocin is the neurotransmitter responsible for establishing bonds between mother and child, two people who are in love etc. Seems to me like a fucked up thing to be toying with.

First person you ever fell in love with and had sex with and became attached to; oxytocin was responsible.

This (Oxytocin) is nothing new. I read about this on erowid like 5 years ago and it told me exactly what oxytocin is. I just remember its some kind of hormone or whatever and re+leased during/after sex.. so i dont understand whats so new about this? Is it like the 1st time they have made it to a succesful nasal spray or something>?

Isn't vasopressin is the main love hormone for males rather than oxytocin (though sex releases oxytocin in both sexes)?
 
Oxytocin is also branded as Pitocin or Syntocinon depending on where you're at. In the hospital setting we use it to induce labor in pregnant women, it causes the uterus to contract. It's also used to control post delivery bleeding for the same reason. There's alot research out there concerning it's role in pair bonding in mammals. According to research it may promote a sense of calmness and lessen anxiety in other situations including sex. Think of the "in love" feeling you get in a new relationship and that's one effect of this hormone. Roses also produce a similar compound which may explain why chicks dig roses! Anyhow it's been around for a long time and the research on non obstetric use is heating up. Once for shits and giggles I applied some topically before going out, I didn't notice any difference in the way I was treated by females but I was a "happy drunk" that night for sure.
 
I heard a rise of oxytocin for those who fall within the ASD could be effective to reduce social problems. Makes sense though, since it increases empathy.

If I ever try this drug, I just don't hope I'll walk around willing to shag everyone i see... including guys. Could happen in an overdose, who knows. Reminds me of these love potions we commoly see in fictional stories.
 
Just a thought, don't know if anyone could back this up with science, but could intake of oxytocin lead to your body ceasing to produce it, similar to if you use too much melatonin or testosterone? That would be pretty messed up ...

That was my thought when I first heard of it. I have extreme trust issues and anxiety.

Anyone know where you can get it? I'm assuming that's not really sourcing.

Ok I just read it has a half life of 3 minutes. There goes that haha
