Being a recreational drug user, is it hypocritical to look down at other drug users?

hey there, i personally love smoking weed casually taking ecstacy, and like my prescriptions.
Now, due to some personal issues i cant stand people (i know) using drugs like heroin, meth or crack
am i being a hypocrite in this situation?? btw if you use the above drugs i have no problem talking to you on BL this is just something that effects me IRL

No, it's more a set of standards that you have for yourself and the people around you that use.

It all just depends on the way you perceive it, really. I know some people that are millionaires and all they do is bang Heroin. Personally, I don't care for it, but I don't look down upon them or it. It would be a different story if they were total junkies and begging for money to get a fix.

Yes, you are a hypocrite. You are no better than them, as they are recreational users just like you. People on uppers tend to hate on people who do downers, and likewise. It's just prefference that gets in the way sometimes. People who get pharmaceutical speed tend to look at meth users awkward. You just have to realize that you are in the same boat. If people who hate drugs were to look at you and them, they would not treat you any different.

its nothing like that. the reason i dislike heroin, meth is theirs all the research out there that both are extremely dangerous and possibly deadly, i guess i just couldnt understand how someone could choose to do that

Yes, from all the lame ass propaganda on T.V. and ads.
But you may not be aware that a lot of people in ads who are against street drugs, are undercover users themselves. Rather it be alcohol, or a pharm, people still feel the same way.

Highly acclaimed people who have went against drugs are now doctor hopping?
M.J. was a perfect example. He paid that doctor extra to give him what he wanted, and the doctor gets the mess at the end? Tobacco is foul, but yet we smoke weed that has be spayed with pesticides?

Stigmas will be and are tearing the world apart.

A lot of people who hate drugs stereotype very harshly. Which is why a lot of drug laws have banned. Even a lot (but not all) of the slightest drugs with recreational value are scheduled.

I'm sorry, but I can go on and on.

^^it isnt hypocritical to look down on people who are, as Chemist pointed out, junkies begging for a fix, be it heroin, meth, ex, weed, alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, whatever.

Is IS hypocritical to look down on someone just because they choose different substances than you.

I'm pretty sure the OP would not be friends with a fiendish addict.

I'm talking about how those goody-two-shoed people in "The media" fiddle with the public's minds, when it is not that hypocritical.

The media is against us all, not just fiends. It affects how all non drug users and occasional users look at one another.

I can understand this for crack or heroin, for most of the ads are for ciggs and weed.

Alcohol is still underrated for it's dangers. It affects everyone.

ahhh i unfortunately am! thus is why i made this thread, my friend has gone from oxy's every once in a while to getting out of rehab for the 5th time the other day for heroin, and it makes me hate heroin and i guess look down at people who bang that shit

Yeah, that's it really.

Understand why, and help him/her get through. Detox and rehab alone is never going to be enough. One needs a little counseling here and there.

I find it funny that people say they don't understand why anybody would do a drug like heroin, given all we know about its dangers. Look at how many people smoke cigarettes - cigs kill millions a year, we are 1000000% sure that it WILL ruin your life if you start, and yet people still do.

The percentage of people who get "hooked" after trying heroin is wayyy lower than the percentage of people who get hooked after smoking a cig. There is more evidence to suggest that nicotine is a more addictive and more dangerous substance, and yet heroin is the black sheep that ruins lives.

Getting back to the original question, I think that it is hypocritical. I've known people who've gotten addicted to weed and MDMA, in fact I know a lot of people who would give up coke or speed before they give up weed. Looking down on a meth user ONLY because they use meth is just an elitist way of making yourself feel better, IMO.

What prescriptions do you use? Heroin is no more harmful then prescription opiate painkillers. Also, if you've done morphine, then you've done heroin.

Yes, even if you don't think it's not hypocritical it is illogical to hate someone for a substance they put in their bodies. It would be like hating someone who ate sushi or mcdonalds. I do however understand disliking someone for their behaviors. Some crackheads, dopefiends, and tweakers can display antisocial behaviors that most people find bothersome. I understand this, but please try to refrain from believing stereotypes too much, as you will find yourself surprised quite a bit if you think that all people who do X or look like X behave in the same way.

just my 2cents

Yes it's hypocritical but I also have many opinions that may be, yet you are entitled to have them.

I know what you mean OP, the total drug fiends aren't necessarily people I like to surround myself with...it depends though, if you can balance work and play, even with using some drugs that end up destroying people's lives, then I'm cool with it. As long as you're a productive member of society, I have no right to criticize your drug you, and you have no right to criticize mine.

You may have a good reason to look down on certain people, but don't paint every user of a hard drug with the same brush.

I dont look down on anyone becasue they ingest a drug. Someone can do heroin, crack anything infront of me and I still consider them equal or equally greater than me. It is when some of them steal, or hurt people to get the drug of their choice, and when it comes to morals, and how far they would go for their fix. Then I might look down on them.

I used to look down on them too, until I became one....
I used to smoke weed, and talk down about ppl I knew becoming junkies....
Then I was intoduced to vicodin, then oxycontin, then Heroin....
