Just had the same thing happen last week. Emergency appendectomy here. INTENSE pain. They gave me IV morphine at first then IV hydormorphone before the surgury and then every two hours the next morning.
When it was time to go home the doctor told me just to take naproxin. I told him I wasn't comfortable going home without pain medication because as the hydormorphone would wear off, I still had a lot of pain. He said he didn't have a triplicate prescription pad. I said I would wait.
After two hours of waiting I finally got him to write 30 5mg oxycodone. And he had to embarrass me in front of the staff saying "this guy thinks I'm a pharmacy. What do you want me to write?"
Unbelievable what all this has come to!
