Adderall and ADHD

Can anyone share their experiences with Addreall for ADHD? I am not so much interested in abusing it, but I am getting tested for ADHD (I am 31, it's been a while coming) and I am wondering what kind of impact I can expect from Adderall, or other meds.

To give an example: I procrastinate. I had a midterm the following day so I stayed up all night trying to study. Except I didn't study. I watched TV or played video games or did anything else BUT study. I kept promising myself I would do it in 30 more minutes, until it was morning. So I went out to my car, opened the door and slammed it shut on my hand. That way I didn't HAVE to write the midterm.

So if I end up having ADHD, will a drug cure me of this complete inability to study? Will is help me focus and not be so easily distracted? And most of all, will it remove this intense hatred I have of anything that bores me, to the point where I'd quite literally rather break my own hand than ready a couple of chapters in a book? I am really hoping medication will help me, but I am terrified it won't.

*as an aside, the prof gave us the questions for the midterm ahead of time. All I had to do was prepare a couple of two page answers for questions I already had. I mean even something that damned easy seemed impossible for me.

(if this would be better in TDS my appologies, and please move)

haha I feel you...

I'm getting perscribed medication for my ADHD, my doctor is one the leading ADHD medication doctor in montreal so i'll definately ask him a lot of questions about em and report back

From what I have read about dexedrine (and no offense to anyone, god knows I love a high as much as the next guy) but it's better than Adderall if you want to abuse it once in a while. I haven't seen anything in the medical literature that shows dexedrine as having greater efficacy for the treatment of ADHD. In fact everything I've read said it's shorter acting. I admit that might be beneficial if you have trouble sleeping on Adderall. Personally I have never taken either, so I am definately open to opinions from people who have.

@sheepie: I appreciate it bro. I wouldn't mind hearing what your doc has to say.

I'm 31 as well and I was recently advised to be tested for ADHD by a Doctor, I haven't done it yet mainly due to the cost, I don't have insurance at the moment and I'm barely paying my bills as it is at the moment.

I do still occasionally take Adderall or Dexedrine or Ritalin (depending on what I can get from one of my many ADD friends) when I have a lot of work to do. For me Adderall has too many side effects and is only useful if I take it right before I dive into a whole bunch of work. I find Dexedrine to be more recreational but also more therapeutic, it allows me to focus on the things that I wouldn't normally have the patience to do but need to do. It doesn't have as many anxiety provoking side effects for me either. Ritalin works very well for me also, therapeutically it might even be the best cause I don't find it to be very recreational at all.

If you have the self control to only use them when you need them I think they can be invaluable, however if you abuse them, take too many of them and start to neglect your health I think they are bad news and can cause much trouble to the user and those around them.

Well I have a rule for pills. I only take what my doctor prescribes. Now that might mean I skip one days dosage so I can get high off my ass another day. But I never lie to get pills, and I never try to procure pharma's on the street. That rule has allowed me to enjoy both demerol and oxycodone without addiction (and trust me, I was taking a LOT of demerol by the time I stopped). So I don't think I will have trouble with these. Besides, I am literally at the end of my rope. If I don't find something to help me soon, IDK what the hell I will do.
