An 8-year-old boy who passed out heroin to his fellow third-graders in a Wilkinsburg classroom told a teacher he got the drugs from "my Mommy's house."
But Chynita Young told investigators she had no knowledge of the drugs.
Those details were revealed in a criminal complaint supporting Ms. Young's arrest on Thursday on counts endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors.
Ms. Young, 25, of Homewood, was arrested two days after her son was discovered with 78 packs of heroin in his classroom at Turner Elementary School.A teacher learned he had passed out the heroin, stamped with the words "Trust Me," to at least one student. Several empty packages were later found discarded in the classroom's garbage can.
According to the complaint filed by Wilkinsburg Police, the boy told the teacher he got the drugs from "my mommy's house." When police interviewed mother and son together, the boy said he found the packets near a toy box and television on the floor in an upstairs bedroom of their home.
Ms. Young denied knowing about the drugs. She acknowledged she and her son were at their Homewood residence on Tuesday before he was taken to school. She said no stops were made between their home and the school.
A separate affidavit detailed the nature of simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief charges filed against Ms. Young for a Jan. 14 domestic dispute with her child's father, William C. Jackson of Mount Oliver. Ms. Young allegedly broke two windows in the front door of Mr. Jackson's Locust Street residence, scratched his face when he answered the door and fled before police arrived.
Ms. Young was arraigned in both cases by separate district judges Thursday.
She was jailed on $75,000 bond.
Her son and a sibling were in the care of the county Children Youth and Family office.
