I'm all for being again the war on drugs, but that statement is so ridiculous... The government isn't to blame for cartels actions, it's greed.
And 8 years is ridiculous, I've contemplated growing mushys too but FUCK that.
Actually, it is the U.S govt which is largely to blame for all those deaths, all that corruption, and the break down of society in Mexico along with the civil war unleashed through American policies. It is the same in other countries such as Guatemala and similar - the U.S war on drugs has corroded these societies and fueled organised crime and corruption. When the chiefs of police and top generals in the army, or the drug czar himself is being prosecuted(take your pick of any number of countries down that way) for taking bribes from cartels, you know damn well that the U.S polices have brought that about! And those prosecuted officials are just the ones caught!
It's not like the U.S Govt is to blame for all those one million dead Iraqi's either is it? Or their other war in Afghanistan and all that suffering and destabalisation and corruption and lies and lies and more lies. When will the war mongering stop?
If the U.S just decriminalised or legalised cannabis alone, this would go a long long way to hindering the power of the cartels because around 50-60% of all the drug traficking comming out of Mexico is cannabis! But what do you know, "Lets keep cannabis illegal so that junior is introduced to meth, cocaine and heroin when he goes to buy his dime bag of pot".8)
lostpixels, what solution might you suggest other than stopping the U.S war mongering? Education? More guns? More apaches? More black water training? More cagings of 21yr old men who posess mushrooms? More money for the drug war? More propaganda? More of the same? How many Mexicans have to lose their lives before another policy is implimented? 30K? 50K? 100K?
If it was the case that this 21yr old man was caged for 8 years primarilly on the basis that he had in his possesion a fungus...what a very sick society indeed!
