The little engine that could
One might say I'm really good at quitting smoking cig's...I've done it lots of times.
No seriously, I've 'incepted' in myself the idea that i don't like cigs...it's taking a while to get a firm hold, but i've found only external things now cause relapses...i.e. getting hammered I always blow through a pack.
The things I've found that help:
1. Replace smoking with something that does not coexist, like running (good long term solution if you replace smoking with a healthy habit). I've found that the endorphins from a good run replace the cravings for the re-laxative effect of smoking just that one cig.
2. If you find that it's the act of smoking and not the nicotine your addicted to, try purchasing a tobacco pipe or getting into cigars...this has worked for my father and some other friends
3. Know your triggers (rolling, drinkining, etc.) and pre-plan responses to avoid cig consumption
4. realize that certain things like fucking over a test or having family trouble
will trigger cravings like none other; find some stress relieving activity to replace it.
a)hold your breath as long as possible...this can be refreshing and good for those destroyed lungs
b) go to a gun range and squeeze off some rounds
c)your turn...figure out something that helps you relieve stress, and can work short term!
I've been a week without a cig and trying not to think about getting anymore...but I've been through this cycle so many times...
So as a final word of encouragement, i have a story.
While in private company alcohol class for a university issued alcohol violation,
I met a guy there for a DUI who told me how he quit smoking for about 5 years--he said every time the urge to smoke a cigarette was overwhelming, he would find a private place and masturbate(no, seriously!).
He said the positives of the strategy were that he was always

and his grip grew immense...
