Opioids Methadone Mega Thread and FAQ

If I were you I would give the Methadone more then a month. You must stabilize on a dose that will hold you 24 hours before you begin to ween down. I really doubt 80mg will hold anybody with a 3 bundle a day habit.

Jumping back to Subs from 80mg of Methadone is gonna be pure hell my friend.

why would it be pure hell? ive been on meth 1 month...bupe is a very powerful opiate. obviously there is the risk of precipitated withdrawal but I can't imagine that bupe wouldn't be able to hold me?
 
^ As I told you in PM, stuckinaloop, it is recommended to be at a dose of 20/30mg of methadone when you want to switch to suboxone.
 
^ These are insanely high doses. I'm sure if you're at say 20mg of methadone, you can switch to 2mg of bupe or even less. There's a whole controversy as to how doctors prescribe much too high doses of bupe.

Na I know..thats what I am saying, RB basically told docs and everyone blahh blah you need to be on these high doses...obviously it's far from true

they also say you have to be down to 30mg...thats far from true, even my clinic has started switching people at 50mg

But I was thinking since it's only been a month, I can skip going down to 50 cause I am not as dependant as someone who has been on meth say 1 year
 
It wouldn't be a very wise decision to switch to bupe when you're on 80mg methadone. I'd go lower ( a lot lower ) before you switch. Like loulou said 20-30mg is what everybody says to be the optimal dose to switch over to suboxone. I'm sure you could switch if you were taking a little more than that but 80mg is pushing it.

This post just reminded me of the absolutely awful precipitated withdrawal syndrome the last time I used suboxone when I didn't have any opioids. Ended up in the ER dehydrated and all that crap, luckily its not as long-lasting as regular methadone withdrawal; only say 18h of misery and then you are stuck on agonist-antagonists instead of a full mu-agonist.

I don't see the benefit. It is supposed to be something that will not induce euphoria; it will. Its supposed to be abuse-proof; its not. I find that if you taper your dosing right you can get away with just about anything over a long enough time-line.
 
If someone has an answer to my question in the post 560... that would be greatly appreciated :\

It really depends on what type of person you are. I know opioid addicts who notice every little withdrawal symptom that if they were doing something productive they more than likely wouldn't even know they were going through withdrawal. Other than that I can't say for sure, but in all honesty I would wonder about the mental depression that comes around in PAWS.

Sometimes it is better to stay at a low dose, until you find a time and a location to ween off the last little bits.

I took 1 to 2 grams of sodium bicarbonate after dosing my weekly recreational intake (50mg instead of my daily 10mg).
It's supposed to make the duration of methadone longer, due to its basic nature, as the more acidic the stomach is, the shorter the duration of the drug.
I'll keep you in touch.

Hi im trying to get off shooting morphine pills and was wondering if i should go for suboxone or methadone.Is the suboxone used long term or do they taper you off?Im not sure if im ready to get totally sober in the next few months or maybee even the next year.Well I want to be totally off the morphine but i think i want something for maintenince.

I haven't tried methadone, but have the chance to and here's what I'm thinking-

Take tagamet right when I wake up(good? bad idea?)

30 minutes later take 10mg methadone(good dose? I want to feel it decently all day. I've nodded on a not super high dose of tramadol, I'm lucky because opioids seem to effect me well! but don't want to take too small of a dose)

30 minutes later eat and drink normal breakfast(or should it be on the smaller side? that'd be fine).

eat again 4.5 hours after that, small lunch, and continue out my normal day in opioid-induced-warmfunness.
 
What do you normally take as far as opiates when you use them? Sort of need to know that to know the methadone dose. I took 10mg's of methadone 5 years ago or so when I had zero tolerance of opiates. I could use way more than that though once I had a big tolerance.
 
Hi everyone, im waiting in line to get either Suboxone or Methadone.
I would love some indo how methadone makes you feel thr fist 1-6 months nto 5 years.'

Ive taken Suboxone illegal to try and stay of the heroin,. were on bupe for about 2 years and i just get a little more energy and mood lift from Bupe in long term.

How does Methadone make You feel (i prefer if someone who has been in the program for an while would give me some do his time here)
