How long of a period should one wait before redosing codeine? I undersand that 400mg is a practical limit because of enzyme depletion, but how long afterward until you can dose again?

It's becoming more and more believed that there isn't a ceiling dose after all actually, and that Morphine isn't responsible for the majority of Codeine's effects, but rather it's C6G (Codeine-6-Glucuronide) that's the culprit :)

But, incase everything I've said here is wrong, I would wait around 4-8 hours (depending on how sure you want to be).

About a couple hours after the first dose.

To solve this enzyme problem, use inducers such as Carisoprodol, Phenobarbital, Ethanol, etc.
For these, medium doses are really all that is necessary. You can go from 1 to 10% conversion to morphine.
This will greatly increase the ceiling dose and solve the problems of codeine tolerance for chronic users.

Ethanol is going to always be the cheapest cost effective booster of opiate/opioid conversion.

Anti-histamines will lower the ceiling dose for codeine due to them also disabling enzymes.
So if your codeine is mixed with promethazine, you will not get as high as if you had codeine alone then a promethazine dose 30 minutes to an hour later.

I have a friend that sometimes redoses codeine a few hours after the first dose. She seems to think it works well and I have been meaning to try it but haven't personally got around to it yet.

Monstanoodle that is pretty interesting, it would be pretty sweet if there is no ceiling dose. I had read that before but its news to me that codeines effects may be caused primarily by codeine-6-glucuronide rather than morphine.

With codeine, inducing the liver to significantly boost conversion is going to be the best option, as codeine-6-glucuronide is not as strong as morphine, and thus codeine is not being used to it's full potential. It just makes more sense to get more morphine out in the picture.IMHO
