The Southern Australian psychedelic fungi season is kicking off once again

Small amounts of Psilocybe Subaeruginosa have already been found in parts of Victoria after heavy rain and early morning frosts. This is by far the earliest I can recall them coming up in my 8 years of hunting

Most patches will not fruit for a few more weeks but there is the chance of the odd find for the enthusiastic hunter with time and energy to burn.

The season peaks from mid May through July but they have been found as late as September with the right weather conditions

The further west you are located, the later the season starts. If you are in W.A I would not bother to hunt before late May.

NO MUSHROOM IDENTIFICATION IN THIS THREAD (visit www.shroomery.org for I.D's)

NO GIVING OUT HUNTING LOCATIONS

Respect nature

Respect your body

Respect the mushroom spirit

DO NOT HUNT ON PRIVATE PROPERTY! I know farmers/wood chipped garden bed property owners who are fed up with randoms entering their property in search of subs.

There's plenty of parks and forests to search in and we don't need to be seen/caught trespassing with bags full of illegal fungi

I will do my best to answer questions and dispel the myths of the mystical mushroom

Happy hunting in 2010

Psilo

Gaayyy :(

So I've looked through the other threads and seen that shrooms can be found in NSW..but more in the northern and southern parts....
I live around the sydney area in the Ku-Ring-Gai council area and was wondering if anybody would know if i might have luck finding them in the Ku-Ring-Gai reserve?
Obviously I don't expect to find any right now, but about when the season does start.

Fuck I love melbourne, today I was just saying how we shouldn't start the 2010 thread until some good findings occur.

Had a shit day today, but when I finally got home, what should I find in my backyard none other then some of those lovely mushies that I love so very much, Although they look slightly differnet to the ones I normally get, so as soon as I get my new digital camera it's off to the shroomery =D

Wish me luck ;)

I bought a bag of straw mulch from Bunnings for my garden and it had about 8 cubes growing in it :)

I hope for your sake they are the real deal but I am yet to hear of any subs up in melb or it's burbs. They tend to fruit in east melb in late april but it all depends on mother nature...

The finds I have seen and heard about have all been in east Vic and the Mornington Peninsula in past weeks, not in recent weeks as the temps went up too high

Most have been tiny amounts but there was a find of over 200 in one patch

Fingers crossed for a bumper season =D

Yay!! I've been waiting paitiently for this thread. My first year hunting but going with experienced people of course :)

I'll have to go for a poke around the parks down mums way when we're there next, bound to find a few :)

Good luck with your first hunt billyswifey

I suggest you dry the shrooms out and start at a dose of 1 dry gram, even if you are experienced with any number of other psychs, mushies can really taker one by surprise.

Don't be surprised if it's well into June before you find any subs either. That is when they will be most prolific

Im north of sydney and it was raining all day on wednesday with temps between 17-23 celcius, the sun has been out each day since. Im wondering if these conditions are right for some mushys to start popping up?

hey wise420, if you are near cow paddocks, you may still be in luck, a friend got a great host of cubensis in one spot andd panouleous cyanescens at another just a few days ago. i wouldnt think you will find any woodlovers yet tho.

and what a bloody score for the buffman. mate i hope you went back and bought a whole stack more of those bales.
checkout some grow tecs, cuz you should be able to continue to grow them, indoor or out. worth having a go at anyway.

Thanks psyna. Damn no cow paddocks, only the wood chip piles.

I'll be waiting:)

If you are north of Sydney, the chances of finding subs are slim to none.

The last time I heard of subs fruiting in the Sydney area was mid winter after days of very heavy rain.

You're after day time temps of 16 and minimum night temps of 10. I always have my best finds when the day temps are 14ish and the night temps drop to around 4.

Note that you must wait 3-7 days for the fruiting bodies to reach a decent size for picking.

The most potent mushrooms are the ones that are just breaking the veil away from the stem.

I try not to pick overly bruised (blue) mushrooms as this is a sign of oxidization or loss in potency.

Never completely pick a patch, it's good practice to leave at least half the mushrooms for regeneration purposes.

BTW there have been some excellent finds of Cubensis and Cyansescens in north NSW/s.e Qld after recent heavy rains so it may be worth a journey if you don't want to wait till June/July.

hey verybuffed, how do you know that they are cubes? as i cant validate or dismiss your claim from that pic.

however, my kids love a trip to bunnings, and my garden can allways do with more mulch.especially with the colder months approaching. so would you share the exact type and brand of mulch that this mycelliem was in.

the lepiota fungus, is often transported in contaminated mulch soil, and that is a yellow colour, and from most reports is toxic, and definitely not a fun psilocybe shroom, so i would make a positive id. before consumption ok.

If we can get them round kuringai, or berowra or Galston across the ferry, i'll be on scout soon, and i might knock a few doors and get permision to check the cow piles out. Will post if i find anything. Peace.

There were 2 fully grown shrooms in a different spot in the bag. I threw them all into my garden with the pea straw mulch. I am not eating any of them.

yeah, good luck with that. the one time i asked a farmer he was straight onto me.

from that day i decided a more furtive approach may be needed. dark clothing, and back paddocks. stickin to the sheltered areas and venturing out when all safe.

a camera these days, i find is a good one. plenty of pics of cows and trees and creeks and mushies. i guess you could ask a farmer to go on his land to do some pkotography, but i would steer clear of asking him if you can check his cow shit for drugs.

i cant see that engendering a happy relationship with you. he certainly fear that if you found them, ( and most likely he will know they are there if they are) that soon enough he will be over run by young trippers, upsetting his cows and what not. let alone bringing attention from the cops. you never know, he might call them himself.

so be carefull, play it real cool. for cubensis hunting i used to go " blackberry picking" and put them on top of my cubes. saved me once or twice too.
