About 2 years ago, weed started chronic quite bad anxiety, i was just dealing with it and stopped weed hoping it would go away but it didnt for a long time, Ive abused every drug under the sun but benzos are the only ones that have caused me problems, first discovered valium which helped amazingly and just used it for only up to a week at a time on occasionals, never had WDs really, had a rough time coming off xanax afterabout 10 days use but that was over fairly quick, well about 2 months ago i using diaz, occinoally xanax and temazepam, not daily (few times a week, but i got into doing stupid doses as it just wasnt effecting me as much now, i felt quite bad so went to the docs and got put on 20mg a day valium (which alone was giving me slight WD's due to the drop in dose) the tapering was bad, made me very deppressed and anxious and felt to shit to go out, i just dont feel like i can handle that for 2-3 months or so, im currently on 7mg xanax and feeling a bit relaxed and wobbly but not sleepy, its hell tbh,im getting rid of most of the xanax in the house maybe apart from a few for emergency purposes.

Thing is it seems the docs here in the UK dont know too much about benzo wd/tapering, i told them my doses but was put down to 20mg dropping 2mg every week or 2 but thats a long drawn out process i cant really take since i will be in constant mild-modereate withdrawal because of my tolerance, should i go to a proper drugs clinic and see what they say?

Ive been told using lyrica is a much more pleasent way of coming off benzos from speaking to people, its anti seizure plus takes away some of the withdrawal symptoms, could just ditching the benzos and using 250-300mg lyrica twice a day for just a week or 2 help me get over the worst of it? I have a drugs councelor that i speak to and im going to haave to explain the situation to her, will minor use of opiates help too? Anything to just get off it painless'ly and quickest and possible, GBL has been helping, some days ive just not taken any benzos and done gbl and been symptom free, its just the constant redosing and that carrys nasty withdrrrwals on its own but they only last a few days, not the weeks of mental hell with benzos.

Firstly i think im going to get rid of the xanax because doses that high are just asking for hell, and might just use gbl for a few days then go from there, but im really really worried about this and would appriciate any advive. thanks

Sounds like my situation right now. I was taking 40mg of diazepam a day for a while, I finally got down to 25mg a day. I now just dropped down to 20mg, and used 4mg of xanax during the time period I dropped. I will not use any more xanax at all and continue at 20mg. My plan is to then continue with 20mg of diazepam for 7 to 10 days, then drop to 15mg, and when I drop to that 15mg, take 4mg of xanax again (this is spread out over several days, not all at once) and continue with 15mg. That is what I'm going to TRY and do.

I would suggest upping your valium dose to what is comfortable for you, and slowly taper from that, as xanax has such a short half life it will be much harder to taper from.

It seems there are a lot of people these days on bluelight trying to get off benzos. I am one of them, and it's a bitch.

Lyrica (pregabalin) may help, I dont know. I've also heard of people using gapapentin for benzo withdrawal.

I am also interested if these types of drugs have helped anyone with benzo withdrawal. If anyone has used gabapentin or pregabalin for benzo withdrawal, let us know if it worked for you or not.

I feel your pain my friend, trust me. Benzo withdrawal is awful.

I have used gabapentin for gbl/benzo withdrawal. It definitely helps Do not substitute gbl for benzos! this is asking for trouble. GBL withdrawal is seriously hellish... iv done it enough times! I am also in the UK, and found the only way to sort myself out was with the help of my doctor who was in fact incredibly helpful in the end. If your current doctor doesn't know what he/she is doing then go to see another one.
My doctor was very helpful and I wouldn't be alright without him! A good taper along with gabapentin, opiates and thiamine got me through the actual withdrawal and CBT/trazodone is keeping me clean.
I can't stress enough that a doctor is your best hope!

thank you for advice, yeah i know about the GBL but ive WD from that before, its is also hell but i dont think its as bad as benzos plus its over in days, not weeks.

also ive spoken to others that have used pregablin, low doses twice a day for a week or 2 after stopping, was alot less painless that long drawn out WD's.

Your doctor is recommending a good course of treatment, it is a widely held believe in the benzo withdrawal world a slow taper is the best way to minimize withdrawal effects. Generally, a 10% drop every 1-2 weeks, which is exactly what your doctor was recommending. The UK is actually far ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to withdrawing from benzos. Almost all the research done on the subject has been in the UK; Newcastle Upon Tyne to be exact.

yeah its a good taper, but the problem is i can do up to 8mg xanax at a time and not even be that sedated, i have a huge tolerance, , my doc didnt even know what xanax was so just stuck me at 20mg which is a big enough drop on its own.

Sorry to say this but you NEED a slow taper.
Don't get rid of the xanax.

A long slow taper means a much smoother ride, minimizing the chance of a long post-withdrawal syndrome.
5-10% every two-three weeks
Cut out sugar,
Cut out caffeine
Cut out alcohol
Avoid GABA acting substances and drugs as they act on same receptors as benzos and can complicate withdrawal. Ditto with alcohol above.

Whatever you do, don't suddenly come off xanax as it can be life threatening as well as dangerous.
I know its harsh, but as well as online support there is offline support too, with telephone advice 7days a week. www.bataid.org
I recommend them personally.

If you don't want to drop 2mg every other week from 20mg going to 0mg, why not drop 5mg every week? 20mg per day for a week, 15mg per day the next week, 10mg the third week, 5mg the fourth week, then you can take one last week to drop to 2.5mg then 0mg per day.
