Legal status of MDAI and MDMAI

I am wondering the legal status of these two drugs MDAI(5,6-Methylenedioxy-2-aminoindane) and MDMAI(5,6-Methylenedioxy-N-methyl-2-aminoindane).

I am looking at these two as an alternative anti-depressant as they don't exert significant recreational effect but rather have therapeutic potential. But I don't want to break any laws in the process.

Any advice would be appreciated.

They are illegal in Australia as they are a similar structure to its relatives MDxx. By AU laws anything that is an analogue or has a similar molecule structure to a illicit substance then its illegal. If i remember correctly even if it mimics an illegal substances effects its banned.

The law states "substantially similar" right? Yes this molecule is similar, but its structure is an indane(unlike any present illegal drug), not an amphetamine or cathione. Plus argubily the effects of MDAI ain't like any illegal drug as its a pure serotonin releaser and lacks DA and NE activity.

All comes down to how fancy a lawyer could you afford? It seems the authorities can stretch "substantially similar" to mean whatever they want. Do you have a spare 100K to prove them wrong? Another option might be simply overthrowing the swines?

Substantially similar = >50% similar

So it depends on how broadly this is determined. Are we talking about something that looks the same or has different chemical and pharmacological properties, or are we merely talking about atoms? If you count up the atoms of MDMA, and compare to what is the same and what is not, you will find MDAI is substantially similar to MDA, as MDMAI is to MDMA. The aminoindane only differs from MDA at the normally terminal alpha carbon (3) and the substituted carbon on the benzene ring (and the hydrogens associated). Even if you're including spatial differences or comparing bond angles I think you'd be hard pressed to show substantial differences.

So this is a definite grey area compared to say mephedrone or methylone. The question is, is it similar enough for them to bother with it at customs. Though since it has little recreational value, they won't be seeing alot comming through, so it may keep away from the spotlight.

So in other words they would confiscate it and attempt to lay charges? At least this chem may have a chance in court if it was taken that far.

If you have a clean history with drug use, Then I see it being no problem if it did go as far as court.

But u would prob be best just to get a small amount to avoid suspicion and then if it did go as far as court I imagine you would be able to avoid having it go on your permanent record, probably just a minor fine if that. I imagine more likely just a warning if u play that u didn't know it was illegal.
