So I'm a two year grower. I'm not sure if this is still allowed to obe discussed on here, I use too see talk of it all the time on google when I needed advice, but fail too see any threads about growing.

Anyway...I know there's two different types of pot. Indicas and the other one begins with a S....what's the difference, how do you know, and what does that difference means?

It may sound funny with someone with two years of growing under his belt not too know...but what can I say? I just let mother nature run her course. She's never failed me thus far! <3

Indica releases a body effect
Sativa releases an energetic effect

What is the difference between Indica and Sativa?

Scientifically (and legally), all cannabis is Cannabis Sativa L..
In practice, Indica and Sativa are the names used to distinguish each end of the cannabis 'spectrum'. There are a multitude of different growth-patterns, qualities and effects within this spectrum, most of which are a result of cannabis' remarkable ability to adapt to its environment. Genetically, and in terms of interbreeding, all cannabis is in the same family.

INDICA:

# Most Indica varieties come from southern Asia and the Indian subcontinent (Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Tibet, Nepal, etc.).

# Indicas are compact and stocky, with dense, heavy, fragrant buds. Indica buds tend to grow in clusters, with varying amounts of space (known as 'internode space') between each cluster.

# Indicas are the faster flowering varieties, usually with a flowering time of 6 to 9 weeks.

# Indicas do not tend to gain height rapidly once flowering has begun. An Indica may be expected to gain between 50 and 100% of its vegetative height by the end of its flowering period.

# The effect of Indica is generally classified as a 'stone', meaning that it is more centred on the body. It may enhance physical sensations such as taste, touch and sound. It has a relaxing effect - mentally and physically - and may be soporific in larger doses.

SATIVA:

# Sativas generally originate in the equatorial regions - Thailand, Cambodia, Jamaica, Mexico, etc.

# Given the same conditions, Sativas grow taller than Indicas. Sativa buds tend grow larger than Indica, as they run along the length of a branch instead of clustering around the internodes. However, they will usually weigh less than Indica when dry, due to their lower density. Sativa buds also tend to have a less striking odour, both when growing and when dry.

# Sativas take longer to flower. They will usually need between 9 and 12 weeks to finish blooming. However, they need far less vegetative time BEFORE flowering than Indicas. So the overall time required for Sativas is about the same as for Indicas (and sometimes less in terms of 'light hours')

# Sativas will usually continue to gain height while flowering, often gaining 200%, 300% or more of their vegetative height while flowering. This is because around the equator there is not so much difference in the number of daylight hours between winter and summer. Therefore, Sativas in their native environment will grow and flower at the same time. For this reason indoor growers should not allow a Sativa too much vegetative growth before inducing flowering. When growing from clones, many Sativa varieties may be flowered as soon as the clone has rooted.

# Despite their lower weight and potentially longer flowering time, Sativas are valued by many growers for their 'high' effect. This high may be characterized as cerebral, energetic, creative, giggly or even psychedelic. It is less overpowering than the Indica 'stone', and less likely to send the user to sleep.

What they said, and here are 2 photos.

First is a pure sativa, second almost pure indica.

Both are mine,

This one is a SkunkxHaze cross pheno, and not to confuse haze is around pure sativa. Ya notice the lengthing between the nodes, and how thing and long her leaves are compared to the WS?

This fat bitch is a White Skunk, she's and indica and you notice she's alot bushier, denser but not as high as the sativa, and the WS is probably close to 2 months older then the Haze.Fatter leaves, and much shorter compared to the haze

wow, I've grown alot of indica an not even known! Thanks for the 411!

Almost all the weed you get in the US is a blend, I believe. But some tend to be more of one than the other and you can easily ID it....

An easy way to tell:
Indica: Purplish, darker green buds. Skunky smell. Makes you STONED (strong body buzz, zoned out, ).

Sativa: Yellowish, light green buds. Smells like citrus or fruiter. Gets you HIGH (thinking a lot, you feel like "doing something" or talking a lot, makes you giggle).

Does anyone know what most crappy weed is? Like swag? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I tend to find that most swag/middies/ditchweed(whatever you wanna call it....the cheap weed with seeds in it) is more sativa than indica.

I would say it would be almost completely indica, much more of an money maker. Denser buds and a quicker grow time.

Indica

- More body oriented stone
- Tired, lazy, lethargic after about an hour or two
- More compact and short
- Shorter Flowering period
- Higher yields (massive generalization)

Sativa

- Tall, thin plant
- Head oriented high; more psychoactive, less physical. Sometimes rather stimulating
- Thinner leaves
- Smaller yields (generally)
- Longer flowering times

good descriptions, but true sativas are generally more expensive, because they need more space to grow, they flower a whole lot longer, double in moist cases, and often yield less. all these factors jack up the price, plus S. usually have a greater bag apeal, and look real fat, with all sorts of bright colors and smells.

about the white trichomes, i dont really like blueberry, but i grow a lot of it, i wont buy it because that more then likely means it was allowed to flower until the plant shows signs of exausting. i flower BB my prefered length of time, which is when the trichs are clearish, and the hairs are pinkish pastel shades, and there are few oarnge hairs, early like 35 days instead of 55-65, because that way, there is less time for it to fill with CBD's and its not too much indica, for me.

this way i have a clear head, and a good body load. IMO

;)

Actually there is ruderalis too. Its common amoung cheap brick weed. I think some even flower on their own.

Anyway finding a pure sativa will be tough. Most prefer hybrids anyway. The nice cannabinoids from the indica with the intense THC of sativa.

Historically indicas come from hash producing places like Morocco and sativas from places like Jamaica and some places in the far east.

How much of a decrease in THC levels do you think you get from harvesting early in your experience?

What Panic is talking about is harvesting at a certain time when the trichomes are full of THC and before some of that THC has had a chance to convert to CBD. This will give the end product much stronger sativa like effects.

Yes, I got that. I didnt know THC converted to CBD though, i thought it was just CBN. So THC levels top off before the CBD levels rise?
