my friend in the past 2 months has has had shrooms about 8-10 times. i was just curious for his one sake of how bad that is. he has stopped but is there any effects he might notice or anything serious. how long should you really space each time you boom?

mmm.. one might feel a bit off but there are no major changes besides the serotonin depletion - he will feel fine if he takes some time off..

i don't think there is a hard and fast rule of how often one should trip.. it is up to the feeling of the individual.. shrooms are non addictive so a person should be able to gauge for themselves..

Would there really be serotonin depletion from musrhrooms? They don't cause serotonin release like MDMA does.

He might notice an 'afterglow' sort of effect, or have strange though patterns that hes not used to but He'll be back to whatever normal might be maybe at some point, maybe not...I never really got back to normal but I'm not complaining.

I was tripping that often or more for months last year (on shrooms & other bits). Can't say I noticed anything negative.

Hmm, I recently went through a period of about 4-6 weeks taking 2C-D most days, as well as nibbling on mushrooms and ayahuasca and acid and DMT....feel fucking fine, maybe a bit away with the fairies, but they are nice fairies, gentle fairies and we enjoy each other. :):)

8-10 times in 2 months could be about once a week which is probably best avoided, but many people do that once or thrice in their lives. I haven't tripped for about a month, besides DMT- its good to get "out there" but not too far :) And not too often; becomes stale.

Your friend will be fine; but is they are concerned about any weird psychological symptoms or such, tell them to either- see a doctor, who probably won't help much, OR meditate and integrate what they have discovered, drug-free, forr about as long as the bingey period lasted. :)

Peace...<3

afaik - psilocybin depletes serotonin for a brief time like LSD - as i recall this is the reason you cannot trip the day after.. am i right?

^Not wrong, but psilocybin decreases the amount of serotonin receptors AVAILABLE (down-regulation), which, I think, causes tolerance.

you CAN trip the day after for sure.. no clue about the serotonin though..

if someone starts getting anti-social, or to a lesser extent acting like a dick.. then that's a problem.. shrooms are extremely non-toxic so that's not really an issue. decide for yourself how often you want to trip.. for some people tripping more than once a year or less is too much, some people are content tripping every day so its very personal.. i think maybe once every couple weeks is cool (pretty healthy) but honestly if someone has the energy to do it every week then that's great! ive had times where i tripped a whole bunch, and times where it would have seemed forced.. best to just relax. :)

I've been having LSD pretty much once a week since last november, only lingering thing I get is sleep paralysis and lucid dreams in the immidiate days following a trip.

That pattern of use is pretty heavy, but any harms will be psychological, the psyche shaped by frequent excursions outside of consensual reality.

As psilocybin works via direct agonism at various 5ht sites, it does not deplete intracellular, presynaptic 5ht a la MDMA.

So why the pattern of tolerance? I believe that it isn't too well understood. Receptor-downregulation seems unlikely due to the time-course of such down-regulation and cells' ability to re-upregulate in time. I do know that one study confirmed that LSD doesn't cause depletion of 5ht or cellular damage at such sites, and this should generalize to psilocybin.

Anyone more knowledgeable here?
