A Jacksonville dentist charged with 14 drug offenses is in jail on $2.5 million bail.
Duval County jail records show Richard Verrette, who has been in private practice since 1986 and has an office at 456 University Blvd. N., was charged Monday with multiple counts of drug trafficking and possession with intent to sell hydrocodone and oxycodone.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mike McCall told Times-Union news partner First Coast News that Verrette was writing prescriptions to people in exchange for crack cocaine and was caught in an undercover sting.
The Web site for Verrette’s practice lists him as a Boy Scouts of America committee member and a volunteer for Parents for LIFE, a Catholic youth ministry.
A woman who answered the phone at Verrette’s home declined to comment.
