Everybody needs to go buy a decent grinder with a kief catcher. Kief is amazing and is great for sleep (try it!). Don't waste your money on a grinder that won't catch pollen. And if your using your hands look at the crystals on your fingers after breaking up a gram...you could be smoking that. I used a two dollar acrylic grinder for a while and it really got the job done...but it also crushed my crystals instead of collecting them. If you go ahead and get a decent one it will last you a long time and you can smoke many bowls of badass crystals.

Look at keif boxes while your at it, their basically the same thing as the screen on your grinder except with a much larger surface area (which helps alot) and no grinder on top.

Also, I've found a few things about kief grinders since I got my mendo mulcher a few years ago.

1. If your weed is already dry/your not worried about getting it wet, than keep it in the grinder, as broken up as possible.

2. Shake the contents of your grinder as much as possible, you will increase your keif production almost exponentially (The quality may be slightly decreased, but I haven't noticed that)

3. Isopropyl and A toothbrush, your grinder screen will get clogged just like a pipe screen would (except with crystals not tar) a toothbrush has fine enough bristle's to poke through the screen wholes, usually this is enough to clean the grinder screen.....if not soak it in Isopropyl for a couple hours.

In general the lighter green, even sometimes shades of yellow the higher quality your keif will be. (thats a personal experience statement though)
 
^ Good keif is yellowy/amber kind of colour. Whereas £4 grinders will leave you with a pile of green keif that is mostly plant matter.
 
My grinder is big and has an airtight storage chamber above a screen. This means my grinder double's as a kief box. Shaking your grinder or agitating your cannabis produced inferior kief in my experiments. I prefer to let the good stuff accumulate slowly because it will be much better in the long run.
 
I hear ya, its a slight quality for quantity tradeoff, depends on how much material you have at your disposable and personal preference I suppose.

My grinder is the same way, the bottom chamber doubles as a kief box....but the advantage of a full size keif box is the larger surface area of the screen, collects alot more depending on how much you have to put in at once...Im pretty sure you can get different, finer screens as well, this way you end up with few different quality levels of keif, the best of course being at the bottom after falling through even the finest screen...Ok im rambling but check it out man.

Green keif is usually the lowest grade $4 grinder keif, agreed completley, man i know a guy that took the same batch of leafs and shook it in a keif box for fucking ever and all that came out was basically green leave powder...than he tried to sell it at dank keif prices.
 
I'm so damn jealous! I've owned a kief-catch grinder for over 6 months, I smoke pretty regularly, yet the kief just doesn't seem to accumulate. I sometimes worry the kief has been falling out from me holding the grinder at too much of an angle when trying to get the weed out and into my bowl/joint/w.e. (once I actually turned it upside down for a moment before realizing my potential mistake). However, I haven't noticed/seen it falling out, but who knows.

Is there some other reason I could be "losing" kief, or not accumulating it in the first place? Has it just not been long enough yet (6 months)? I mean, my weed is very crystal-y (I only smoke the finest), so I don't think that's the problem. but there's still no kief...

any help?
 
These grinders are amazing!!

I always have a big pile of kief to smoke on when i dont have weed cuz my grinder is full to the point it doesnt collect anymore.

Although you have to think about the fact that all that kief is going into your grinder and not the joint that your smoking.
 
Put a penny or another small coin in the part that collects the bud. Shake it around whenever you grind it up and it will knock off significantly more kief, but then again your bud is less potent.

Also when I'm grinding bud for a joint or blunt I like them with no catcher
 
Somethings seriously wrong there sleeping pains, cause what I usually smoke is far from the high grade and I collect loads of the stuff, maybe your screens a bit too fine and only letting the badboy keif through
 
get a wicca box/kief box. grinders dont collect crystal worth shit. just buy a grinder that is good and doesnt collect crsytal and bust all your bone dry bud in your box. i usually have a fat stack of crystal in a jar to top on my bong hits or take pure. best taste ever.

Because I hate destroying the potency of my buds. My buds are far from dank as it is.

Sleeping pains: Your screen is probably clogged. I smoke crappy stuff and still get plenty of crystals. You should have a thin layer of crystals after grinding a couple grams.

Sleeping Pains-- I've found alot of times the better the bud the less keif you get almost....my theory behind it is most crappy weed is pretty dry and old, it crumbles to a fine powder quite easily, so more falls through the screen...

.most dank weed is pretty sticky and usually not dried out nearly as much, instead of grinding to a powder it just grinds to smaller stickier chunks, unless you grind it several times and leave it in the grinder for days its not gunna be a powder....the plus of course is that just about nothing but crystals get into your kief tray.

I bet you that you have some fire keif in there.....or you dont smoke as much as us fiend types......or like weekendaddiction said you may have a clogged screen.

I say don't be afraid to shake the grinder if your impatient and want it to collect quickly, Im the same way. You may lose a bit of quality but if your only smoking the finest anyways ....than worst case scenario you have crystals and the finest chunks of the finest buds.
 
Sleeping - Maybe yer weed is too moist still when you're grinding it? Definitely leave it by the radiator on a piece of paper for a while, if it is moist, until it goes crissssssssssp.
Then you should get shit loads from yer stuff :)

If yer stuff is always dry anyway, then perhaps it's your grinder being a wanker and not being that good at collecting.
I'd get a new one if that's the case ;)
My mate's is great and we always have a tiny, lil' smidgen in a bong. Even though it's the tiniest bit it still makes you cough like fuck! 8(

just get a metal or plastic coffee filter lol,costs you less than 2 bucks,grinders dont get that good of crystal,because its ovious that ur busting it up,the best hash is made from shaking ur buds becuase the heads are still in tact

A grinded eighth will only leave me with a tiny amount of kief, and I notice that every time I finish grinding up a nug, the holes in the grinder (that the crystals are supposed to fall though to to pass through the screen) are plugged. I always have to clear them all out with a knife, otherwise nothing can get through.

Am I just grinding too much at a time, or are space case kief collector's just useless? Anybody have one of these and knows a solution?

I have one and I love it. If your shit is good shit, obviously you're going to get more kief. If it's mids or low-end beaster, don't expect much. Usually what I do after grinding a decent amount is gently roll the plant matter across the screen, it helps to push it through and collect loose stuff. Also try grinding upside down and just shake it a bit before opening and you're golden.

Pollinators / boxes are great; I would recommend spending the money to get a Space Case. I was using a generic pollinator the other day and man does it suck compared to the Space Case. Dull teeth, kept getting clogged up, overall an inferior design. My .02
 
Ahh thanks for the advice, I'll try grinding upside down next time I can find weed. The stuff I grinded was all medically grown, definitely high quality, but perhaps I wasn't doing it right.

Anyway a little off topic but relating to space cases.. the very day I got mine it was brand new and shiny, unscathed. That very night I found huge gashes around the sides of it and little scratches everywhere. Couldn't believe it, didn't bother me too much but it would have been nice if it didn't scratch so quickly. In fact I'm not even certain it IS a space case. It came free with a vaporizer I ordered from ebay and the seller noted it as a space case.
Do they scratch that easily? I couldn't even recall rubbing it against anything, had it in the cloth bag whenever it wasn't in use.
 
Man, don't even worry about it. Whether you have the aluminum or titanium model, both materials are pretty susceptible to surface scratches. Can be caused by setting it on a table, probably even by the bag's fibers rubbing up against it. My aluminum Space Case has a lot of surface scratches, but I have it to grind, not look pretty (it still does though, hehe). It will not make any difference in that regard. I bought mine from a very trusted local place so it's definitely legit.
