BELLEVUE, Neb. --

A Bellevue man's near-lethal dose of a psychedelic drug is raising concerns of an emergency room physician.

Emergency room physician Dr. Jeff Snyder said the drug known as DMT doesn't have much of a positive use.

"That's what the chemical is supposed to do, give you a near-death experience," said Snyder.

Police said that when they went to a home near 30th and Harrison streets in early January, Terrance Sutton told them he thought he was going to die.

When he recovered, police accused him of possessing a controlled substance. Benjamin Jones was charged with distribution of the drug.

"This particular chemical interferes with your pineal gland," Snyder said. "That's your master gland and controls all of your glands. I hate to think it would shut off your master gland and who knows if it would start again."

Bellevue police said the men ordered DMT off the Internet. Many of the sites selling it are international distributors.

Snyder said that, in itself, is dangerous.

"Anytime you're ordering anything on the Internet, you don't know what you're getting and what it's really supposed to do to you, besides the folklore on the street that you hallucinate, have a near-death experience and (it) trips you out," Snyder said.

Snyder said he hasn't seen a DMT overdose in his emergency room and hopes Sutton's experience is the last scare with the dangerous drug. Both Sutton and Jones made court appearances on Wednesday and are free on bond.

They could be referring to 5-meo-dmt as they said it was being brought of the internet plus it has bad side affects in my experience.

And yeah this article isnt worth the paper it's printed on .... or the time I spent reading it.

Oh god, this pineal gland shit :X

I'd say the guy who smoked it had a panic attack. At least, I won't believe this was DMT.

Thiis is riidiculous. I mean- it sounds like that some guy freaked out, thought he was gonna die and maybe called emergency...No ambulance; and the poliece kindly charge the dude straight away...

This article should be renamed. 'our heads are up our asses, still' would be much more fitting. Terrible piece.

I just remembered DMT was illegal because it's so positive it doesn't seem like it should be.

Doesn't have much a positive use? Haha ;) Of all the drugs that line could be applied too.. wow.

This physician is a laugh.. he's associating the description 'near death experience' with actual organ failure/death, people in the medical field really need to have a broader understanding of the meaning 'psyche' and drugs that fall under this classification.

A near-lethal dose of a psychedelic drug? And they are talking about DMT?

When I see these things on the news or read similar news stories, I wonder if the journalists just ignore 90% of the accurate information they get from doctors and the people who use drugs and misquote the shit out of them to make a huge problem out of it all.

Or maybe the doctor consulted in this story just does not know much about DMT.

The doctor should be told that DMT is naturally produced in the body, particularly in the pineal! How is it going to destroy the pineal if it occurs there naturally?

In other news: doctors are still ignorant, egocentric fools who can't be trusted.

(And emergency-room physicians are hardly specialists FFS! They're more like glorified orderlies who get paid twice as much but are half as useful.....)

This.

It's amazing how much doctors really don't give a shit about anyone under their care. As long as they can run a shit ton of tests on you and feed you a massive amount of prescription drugs for as long as you live, they're golden. Money, money, and more money is what it boils down to.

The damn guy had a panic attack. I've had a couple of panic attacks where I was sure I was dying, including on a very high dose of DOI with the panic attack going almost non stop at that terrible level for maybe 36 hours. I didn't rat on my supplier. This dirty rat was stupid enough to call 911 instead of waiting 5-10 minutes for the DMT to wear off, then he drags his supplier down, either for a reduced sentence or just to get back at him for the bad trip.

Also, I have seen many ridiculous news stories on drugs, but few pack so much disinformation and lies into so little space. Why the hell do newspapers print shit like this without at least taking a few minutes to check it for accuracy? I know, probably because they'd have to challenge the status quo and hire more workers so they could actually check for truth.

Anyway, fuck the worthless pig and worthless rat, both are just filthy scum.

Here is the thing: in our efforts to bring about the legalization of freedom (drugs), we are fighting popular press stories like this one.
So, our job is to think about HOW TO RESPOND to such rubbish, so that the masses of people out there who believe this bullshit are educated about the truth of drugs.
We need a simple, clear message, but it is likely to get lost in the noise created by trash reporting.
WE DEMAND FREEDOM (to enhance our consciousness) seems to be simple and clear, but people who believed this article will think "freedom to kill yourself?".

Please, let's get our heads together and think about a strategy.
How can we counter such ignorant, biased articles filled with lies?

hearing and experiencing stupid doctors from all over the country makes me really regret not going in to med school and becoming a GOOD doctor as there are hardly any of them.

^Medical schools do a very good job of weeding-out anyone who might even consider thinking for themselves. Occasionally a few free-thinkers will fall through the cracks, but the system usually just disposes of them in other ways later on.'

edit-- this view is probably too cynical, now that I consider it. There is a small percentage of great doctors out there, far from a typical occurrence though.

My other bluelight friend Detrevni and i are going to email the "news" outlet that produced this piece of yellow journalism with the correct information, citing credible sources, and most importantly expressing our disdane for such terrble journalism. I suggest others do the same, as well with the doctor that expressed his unfounded and uninformed "medical" opinion. They cant ignore a flood of emails.
