IN, Bloomington - 01.21.10 Thursday - Scion Radio17 Party w/ Rusko, 12th Planet! FREE

Not that anybody really cares, but I played a dubstep set on Saturday at the Local Music Git Down. Had a couple people slow-mo-wobbling, so that's good.

the scion party packed out because you had some of the biggest names in the genre for FREE! i'd say about 50% of the ppl there had no clue what they were listening to and just came bc Scion is cool, and, once again, it was FREE.99. most of the kids that did know what was up drove an hour or more to get there. That was easily a $5k+ line up that brought maybe 200 ppl thru the door. that would be $25 tickets to break even off the door. do you think even the kids in the know would have paid $25 for that lineup?

::just sayin::

most classic point in the night was Dada playing the Forever remix and watching every cracker in the crowd sing a long. "I want this shit forever mane!"

erm...i think there's a little more to it than the "free" aspect. even if people DIDN'T know wtf dubstep is, they were still into it. that bodes well for dubstep being integrated LOCALLY. yeah, free is always nice...but, that's power of marketing.

It only bodes well if the next non-free dubstep show does as well.

If the crowd got into it, tho', then maybe some new fans were made.

yes, it was the result of marketing, and do you realize how huge the scion marketing machine is? they run highly followed internet radio station. they constantly do tours. they give away TONS of merch. those are all marketing techniques that only the 5th largest corporation in the world can supply. that party did little for dubstep and more for selling japanese cars to american 20 somethings.

its kinda like ... how many hippies do you know that love Bassnectar but have no clue who Caspa, Rusko, Benga, or Skream are?

it was an awesome show, nonetheless. i had a blast ... and that last track rusko played was absolutely merkalicious.

do you know if any sets were recorded this night? i sure would like to hear em =(
