saw Vaski and aboot 15 minutes of Slugo. Got hungry and left. Seemed like a decent amount of people there, however, the space was too big for the lack of crowd filler. Log Squared sound was titties and beer as always. Drink I had was strong and $4 (and a crown and coke, not bad!) Everybody there seemed to be having a really good time. There were some fashion disasters there. There were "ravers" there. "ghetto/booty house/tech" reacts with estrogen. It was worth the $10, maybe not the $30 tank of gas and 2hr drive that accompanied it.

7.5 out of 10 for effort, drink, log squared sound bumping dubstep

i think the main room is possibly too big for it's own good, but once Vaski was on and everyone was in there, it seemed to work. also, i think the huge Milwaukee show definitely kept the Chi-town crowd away

Milwaukee?

Does anything REALLY pull people out of Chicago? I know I wouldn't leave Chicago for Fort Wayne if I lived there. lol

Well...the 18ers I suppose. Forgot about that.

well, if the rave-laws are the same up there, you simply can't do shows like this there. Milwaukee, however, is just a hop-skip-and-a-jump away, and they had Benny Benassi, DJ Funk, Qbert, and Dave Hollands on a huge show. it seems like i had heard that the fort wayne scene does draw in a contingency of Detroit and Chicago fans

If that was true, Slugo and Stacy Kidd's dancefloors wouldn't have been so shunned, unfortunately.

i don't think it would have under normal circumstances, but this was new years, and there was a lot of competition. i think given the option, people in chicago would probably go to the milwaukee show over this, especially if it's closer. again, i could be wrong about that.

I had a good time, but I can't see how Jimmy/Turtle made any money unless they got a cut of the bar.

Well it wasn't from lack of promotion or paying locals that drove (from what I heard.) This event prob. did meet it's full potential... Turtle pushes his events HARD and comes correct w/ the sound from what i've witnessed. Maybe a team effort should be considered.

I by no means am dissing this party in the slightest. I got to open the bar and support my fellow DJs on whatever stages they were on. I also got to meet some friends I've only talked to online as well as catch up with some old friends I haven't seen in years.

Overall this was a great show, I just don't know too many people who didn't get in as a +1 somewhere, which is why I don't believe they made much money.

The NYE market is a hard one to pull. Props for Matt for trying. But that line-up, quite honestly, would pull surrounding dance patrons who don't normally travel and/or aren't accustomed to traveling long distances for parties.

Anyone will to travel 5-6 hours for a party would either hit Chicago if they're over 21 or Milwaukee for a show that features a DJ that has massive "punter" appeal. Benassi is a "name" that simply eclipses Stacy Kidd for the average "punter". He's in the top 20 of DJ Mag Top Djs, or at the very least in the top 50. Stacy Kidd is a name, along with Sluggo, that the "heads" would know and respect. The "heads" can't -- and usually don't -- pack a party.

So no, this party wouldn't pull from Detroit or Chicago or Milwaukee when there's plenty of action nearby that was of "equal" or "greater" quality. (And by quality, I mean just fame/name recognition )

It may have been a different story altogether if the show were in Indianapolis, but then Matt would have been working with a number of other factors that work against him. Matt is in the unfortunate position where he's got a kick-ass venue apparently in a market that, on its own, can't support it. So he'll have to go all-out with the 'name-recognized' DJs or luck out with an event on a date that no one else is really doing anything.

NYE simply wasn't a good date for this event, unfortunately. But again, props to him for trying. I never had the balls to try an NYE date.

(I realize this is a bit of Monday Morning Quarterbacking, but there it is.)

I thought it was a pretty good party. Considering the competition with Wisconsin and Chicago, I thought the crowd was pretty good.

My friends and I had fun, and I'm already excited for the next one!
