Just wanted to get everyone's opinion on which SSRI/SNRI has worked best for you and what you were/are taking it for.
My diagnosis is Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder and slight depression.
The following are the ones I've tried and what I think of them, starting with the first one I tried, ending with my current med.
1. Prozac (don't remember how many mg's) *took for about a year* - This was the first SSRI I took. I started having panic attacks about 15 years ago and didn't know what was wrong with me. I went to a psychiatrist and he told me all about 'anxiety' (we didn't have the Internet back then...or it certainly wasn't widely used). Anyway, it worked well, as far as I remember. It certainly pulled me out of my initial funk.
2. Zoloft 50 & 100mg *took on and off for about 6 years* - Worked good for my depression, but wasn't that great for my anxiety.
3. Wellbutrin - *took for 2 days* Absolutely sucked! After 2 days, I felt like I was crawling out of my skin. Was a total nervous wreck.
4. Effexor 75 & 150mg - *took for 6 months* This one I am split on. While it worked well for the slight depression I have, it wasn't so great for my anxiety. Made me too jumpy and hyper. Also, if I didn't take it at the same time every day, I'd get terrible brain zaps.
5. Paxil 40 & 60mg - *took for about 3 years* This worked very well for me. It helped my anxiety and curbed my depression. Unfortunately, it recently started crapping out on me. The downside has been coming off this medication. Had to ween over a 2 week period, and even during that time, I still got BAD brain zaps.
6. Pristiq 50 & 100mg - *have been taking for about 3 weeks* So far so good with this medication. At first, I was worried because not only is it new, it is being called the 'new Effexor' etc. For me, it has been very different from Effexor. I am not jumpy and it has had almost NO side effects. I know it may be too soon to tell whether this is really the medication for me, so far it is curbing my anxiety. As a side note, I learned to be patient with this medication. At first, it felt like I was taking a placebo but it finally started kicking in after about 2 weeks and after upping my dosage to 100mg. I know it takes 4-6 weeks for these meds to work, I have taken enough meds to know whether it is going to work for me or not within a week or so.
