As brought up previously though, there is a very different posting 'clan' if you will, between AusDD and Aus Social.
And with the extra 3 of you now on board - I find it difficult to believe that moderating a single thread could be a completely onerous task.
Certain individuals who ruined the last thread are well aware of their actions. No need for that opportunity to be denied to the rest of us posters who actually have a bit to offer in the way of general chit-chat with a HR-slant.... not all the posts were rubbish, I for one can think of several contributors who did their bit to keep the thread active and interesting.
And with the extra 3 of you now on board - I find it difficult to believe that moderating a single thread could be a completely onerous task.

I suppose the issue is that the social thread is a bit of a legal minefield, so I can understand why the mods are erring on the side of caution. They've told us it will reopen, so hopefully that will happen soon

Nice post hyroller, and I will keep that veiw on board. I think the thread is a positive for the forum personally, and I will place your veiw forward in the coming discussion beginning in the new year.

Give me something positive and HR related that came out of the last social threads.
And why does anyone feel it's so important to brag about using copious amounts of drugs or explain in detail why they feel like shit or are writing so badly? Are you all struggling with puberty or something? Presenting in such a fashion simply degrades the board, but more than that, it makes it's members appear to some outsiders as drug fucked idiots. It also presents all sorts of potential legal problems, and will only serve to guarantee our fate re the future ISP filter.
If you're that bored, how about trying to find an actual worthy topic, start a thread and provide some interesting links? Oh dear...that's right, for most that's not likely to happen as that actually requires thinking for more than 30secs and writing more that one sentence/ post 8)

Of course, if the contributors this is aimed at could demonstrate some continued sensibility i.e. discretion, perhaps such a thread could have a place here, but if prevailing attitudes are any indication, I think it's far too bigger ask

I have to admit I received a few PMs from previous admins about that thread, politely expressing a sentiment of 'wtf is that doing here?' which was never easy to explain. There are many, especially the members of various drug forums who do feel there is a place for them, even though on the surface they do appear to contradict our HR goals.
As it's 11am on New Years Day I'd be expecting that none of us are wearing pants right now.

And it's interesting to note that some of the thread's prime contributors have now changed their stance on the matter, for obvious reasons.
To me it sounds more like laziness and aversion - sure, the thread fucked up once, but I think a second chance seems well in order given the volume of mods here now. If people fuck it up again, then get rid of it for good by all means. I think it's important to get the opportunity to engage with the readership of a forum, and to assume that we we are all uneducated fuckwits out here to prove ourselves as knobheads would be a very inaccurate conception.... 8)
